The only people who can buy a road registered version in Aust is... Australia Post. The entire postal services uses them as their delivery bikes.

If you or I or anyone else wants one for the road, we have to buy them 2nd hand. Either find out when Aust Post auctions off their old ones and get one there and get it Roadworthy yourself, or buy one from a dealer. So the number showing high sales is misleading cause the public cannot buy them new only the govt postal service.

The Naked section...



I don't get how Honda's CB400 did so well considering its high price... but then again... when combined, the GS500 overall kicked butt with sales of 491 in total - with 3 months of the year to go and as we head into warmer weather down here. So for a LAMS bike (meaning, learners are allowed to ride it) the GS ruled the roost overall!

The SFV in the Naked section is the Gladius. Now that the Gladius comes in black I expect its numbers to increase for next year.

Biggest surprise for me was the KL650 beating the VStrom. BUT, the Kawa can be bought on a Restricted License while the VStrom needs an open license to ride. So that would make a Huge difference I assume.

Not any more, Honda now sell road registerable versions to the general public.

I think they are marketed pretty well Michael. When you walk into a Honda showroom they usually have the CB400's right in the middle of the floor and being the more expensive bike the sales guy will tend to steer a new rider towards one of these. Other than the price they're an awesome bike. As for the GS's they are usually stuck in a back corner somewhere. This is what I have noticed anyways. When I was shopping with my mate for his bike the slaes guy didnt even mention the GS when showing him LAMS approved bikes till i said "Hang on....where are your GS500's?" Of course he pointed to athe back corner.  And side by side the CB400 looks so much more modern. I can understand why people buy them.

Something else I thought of...

I cannot say for Team Moto rider training... but the QRide program that Pro Motorcycles do is all at Honda Rocklea. So... learn on a Honda then buy a Honda. Honda also does HART - Honda Australia Rider Training - and in Brisbane that is right up the road from all the bike shops in Moss St, Springwood. So, yes, smart marketing from Honda while Suzuki seems to do none 

I did ask a Qride instructor why they don't offer students GS500s... she said, she felt the CB400s were better for learning on and easier to control at slow speed - mind you, she is employed by a Honda dealership so...
