Was there a year that they came like that, are they aftermarket wheels, are they repainted, WHAT'S GOING ON????

Oh, and has anybody painted their rotors and/or calipers? i like the bright colored look, and I'm thinking of doing it, but the jury's still out on what color...
If you think you can, don't. Many things start with "I think I can," and end with "Ow!"

they were painted white from the factory...i don't know the exact years but i think maybe from 89 to like 95 GS's had white wheels...

i was one of the lucky ones

I'm not the original owner, but I think they came stock on my '89.
I broke it... I bought it...

I hate my white wheels. They'er so ugly. I'm gonna paint them or something. :x

painting your rotors would be a BAD idea...

if you painted the outside part of the rotors (where the brake hits) it prolly wouldn't stop very well for awhile, but eventually the paint would rub off. You can paint the calipers, Im actually plannin on doin that too mine sometime too. Make sure you use brake paint, or some other hi-temp paint cuz the heat will make regular stuff bubble and peel. I used VHT Brake Paint on my car brakes and it looked good/didn't peel. Hope this helps

Oh yeah, as for color I'd go wit either a minor color to ur bike (like if its white wit blue decals use blue) or if u wanna get real sneaky paint it red or gold like brembos or some other high end brakes :)

I have white wheels and they are pitted and ugly wanna trade?
I'll even throw in some $$$

Aside from the problem of not being able to stop while the paint wore off the rotors, all that paint will gum up and ruin the brake pads.

Sanityfree, you WERE only going to paint the brake rotor carriers, weren't you?  I've been considering painting my black carriers ('96) gold or bronze.  I've seen pix of some GS's that are stock this way.  Unfortunately, my rotors aren't detachable from the carriers (like some evidently are; probably the gold ones), so that means a lot of masking.  I don't think silver, bronze or gold is squiddy.  While I was at it, I was going to paint the calipers the same color.

my black rotor carriers have a bunch of rust... those little circle things holding the rotors on are pretty rusty and crappy.  Masking it shouldn't be so bad, just need to use smaller pieces of tape.  Could always get the nice wide blue painter's tape.  Oh well, that's what I get for buying a bike that was stored outside in the northeast!

umm, i'm not exactly sure what you mean by brake rotor carries, but i DO know better than to paint the part where the pads grip.

i was talking about painting the inside of the rotors, and the calipers, something other than that dull black color they are now. maybe some kind of silver...

I actually like the white wheels.
I think they look really nice with a black bike.   :thumb:

Hmmm - funny thing, my wife hates 'em... says they look really 80s... oh well...   :dunno:

i bought a set of dark grey rims off ebay...got one first and had to wait for a while for the other one to pop up on ebay...im so lazy i bought a new set of wheels, a yoshimura exhaust, and new levers but i never even bothered to TRY to put anything on.
Don't mind me I'm just new.

The rotor carrier is the part that is painted black or gold (in some years). I do have a couple of rotors with the gold carrier if interested.
Common sense in not very common.

sorry i took so long to reply.

are the carriers permanently attached to the rotors?
