I dont get why my owner's manual ('02 stratus) recommends changing the oil only every 7,500miles.  But everybody else on the face of the earth tells you every 3,000miles.
WTF?

I mean surely the car manufacturers wouldn't recommend something that's bad for the car...

you can change your oil every 10 000 miles if the oil stays clean and doesn't lose it's velocity...so if you don't push your car to the limits and your engine is in good shape (doesn't burn or lose oil) then you can change your oil every 7000 miles, but it's a lot better if you change it every 3000 miles

There are some motors being built that are so tight that they don't require a change for many more miles than conventional wisdom (oil/fuel companies) would like. These motors have been tested for runs of 10k, 25k, and as much as 50k miles before they really need a change. Good engine management software, as well as really good tolerances, make it a perfect operating temp (low shear) and near zero loss environment for lubricants.

And then there's the GS500 motor  

My 2.0 VW motor seems to actually gets better with age on the oil loss. I burned more oil at 25k than I do at 75k. Go figure. Seals most likely pluged with crapola. I still get 32 MPG doing 80+ MPH every day baby. Don't hate me because I get good MPG, SUVers  :nana:

My 03 Dodge Neon indicates a 6,000 mile interval, which I have been following.  It reccomends 3,000 mile intervals for extreme conditions, such as stop n' go driving, dusty environment, etc.  With all the miles I drive, I'm glad because with all the miles I drive it doesn't take me long to drive 6,000 miles let alone 3,000.

i usually avg about 2 changes a month (150 mi day) sooner than 3k but i am hard on my vehicles cept for frankenbike :mrgreen:

my focus runs every 5K and after 100K every 3K.

so i have been following that.

In my opinion, the car maker has a better idea about how long the engine can last regarding oil.  They have an interest in your engine lasting 100,000 miles.  Jiffy Screw and Quacker State don't!

No shaZam!!!!  Gotta think Penzoil, makes 2.5 times as much money if I show up there every 3000 miles Vs. every 7500.
