Until you work out that how much it weighs!

fraze11

Not sure I'm following?  According to Suzuki's site its dry weight is 475 lb.  I believe my 500 is ~400lbs.  I do alot of long trips and touring and think that this bike would be a great choice for that.  Has anyone ever ridden one?  Any comments/feedback?

I've ridden one a fair bit - given it's water cooled it's not really fair to compare dry weights....think about 550lbs wet vs 400lbs wet!

It's ok, just nothing special....some big bikes hide their mass well....this one doesn't.

yeh that weight is kinda ridiculous. i'd rather go for the sv650. same weight as the gs5 lol.

Nah...don't listen to them...it's a great bike.  I know a guy that has one and says it is great...it is heavier than the GS, but it has twice the power...it is the next step up the ladder from the GS in the Suzuki sport bike line-up.  If you do a lot of hiway, the weight is helpful...it makes the bike more steady...just remember this bike is not a super sport, but a sport touring bike that replace the outdated Katana bikes.  Just like the Bandit 1250S got replaced this year by the GSX1250FA (which is the big brother to the GSX650F)...I thought it was a nice bike and felt very familiar (same riding position as the GS)...so yeah, an extra 120-130lbs, but also an extra 50Hp to move it around...it will feel like a rocket compared to the GS500F or E if you have the naked one.

Bikes to compare it to...

Yamaha FZ6R...

Honda CB600F (Canada only)...

Kawasaki Ninja 650R...

Hyosung GT650S...

Happy shopping...

OK, have to say a couple of things. I probably more then anyone love pictures but do they have to be so big? Do what you want though.

Next is I think in the past all makers Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki, and others all made bike that where so close in looks, styling etc... Latley it seems only Suzuki is the only one that has not gone off the deep end with this weird, OK I will say it "street fighter" silly tail look. Not a fan of it.

If I had room, I definately would get a GSXR before an SV or the other bikes pictured but that's just me. I think they look sweet and ride very nice.

You guys get the Kawasaki ER6? Maybe another one to consider?

Doubt you will like JB. It has the streetfighter look to it.

LMAO how did you guess. It's a nice bike though. I just don't like the tail with nothing on it. Looks like a diving board? I don't know it's just me.

P.S. Thanks for the normal sized pic though  :thumb:

I've triple looked over on in the shop. That headlight is... wrong.

And a lousy 15.5 litres - 4.1 gallons. Of course, compared to the GS it's lousy  :icon_mrgreen:

Bikes are definaltey a personal preference, I think we all agree on that.  Having ridden supersports, although fun not really what I'm after at the moment.  A Sport-Touring is what Im looking for, I just have to find the right one for me :)  I leaned towards the GSX simply because I like the GS and the GSX *appears* to be the GS's big brother...we'll see I guess...

I've always had a sweet spot for the monster. especially the 696 with the new body work.

or an older speed triple

As far as monsters go, Ive always liked the look of the older m900s. The newer ones look too busy. It's definitely the style of bike that I think benefits from looking simple.

Are you looking at a new one ? The problem with new bikes is there are always used bikes that are twice as good for half the price.

New is nice, but you have to pay the price of admission...I prefer to let someone else pay the depreciation...you loose about 20% each year for the first couple of years then it's about 10% per year after that...bikes usually bottom out around $1000 ish...depends on the bike, etc, but yeah...let someone else take the initial few years hit...

Most likely used.  I bought my GS new simply becasue the price and extras were just too good to pass up and used ones weren't going for much less.  But for my next bike it will more than likely be used and 08 or 09 hopefully.  Completely agreed, let someone else eat the depreciation :)

I hate buying new bikes. Not even because of the depriciation, but just the hassle. You've got the break in, how many tune-ups there are in close range, not to mention warranties. As nice of an idea as it is, I hate buying a new bike and dealing with anything that may be wrong with it, arguing with the dealership to get it fixed. I like buying a bike used and knowing that it may just have a few issues, fixing them, and moving on. If I have a warranty I feel obligated to make the dealership fix it, and that's usually 3 times as much work than doing it myself. Even worse is owning a bike that's clean and spotless. I hate putting that first scratch in a bike. Give me one with a few scuffs and small dents and I can get straight to business.
