Whenever I turn on the throttle, generally starting around 7k rpm, the engine revs but it feels like my clutch is being pressed in.  It's not noticeable in 1st but it seems to be there in the other gears.

I thought that maybe my clutch cable was too tight but shifting gears gets pretty clunky if I loosen it up any more.  I also checked the oil (being a wet clutch) and I fall right in between the marks.

Any ideas on a diagnosis?

Did you notice this right after you changed your oil? If so, what oil did you use?

Nope, it's been about 3k miles since my last so I'm due for it.  I figure I'll change it just before I go to store it for the season.  I used just non-synthetic 10W40 for motorcycles though.

Well, it's your clutch slipping which is usually indicative of a worn out clutch. It can sometimes happen from using the wrong kind of oil, but that's not the case for you. You weren't trying to do some burnouts, where you? 

I'd check the clutch adjustment on the sprocket cover as per the manual first, But if that's OK then as century says its likely your clutch is 'stale bread', and on the way to becoming toast.
Replacing it is an easy DIY if you know which end of a hammer is which.

Haha I like the analogy.  My bike has 13,000 miles and I haven't tried for a burnout before.  It's stupid but I don't have the clymer's or anything for the GS...when you say clutch adjustment, are you saying to tighten/loosen the cable for it by that nut?
