[img]Just wanted to say hi and that I am glad to come across this site and its wiki.

I  recently purchased a naked 93 gs500 10k miles for $1000, it runs OK and needs a bit of TLC. I am newbie who is learning to ride with this bike and am finding it easier everyday I take her out.

This past weekend i lubed and adjusted the chain(think i did that right), inspected the sprockets and cleaned up under the clutch cover(yuck). Prior to that i adjusted the clutch. I just ordered the RH generator side case gasket to remedy a small leak. Next step is to change the oil/filter and replace the oil filter cover gasket along with the side case gasket for-mentioned.

Mods it came with:
1. K&N single open filter (lunchbox?)
2. Yoshi slip on exhaust. It sounds decent
3. The rear plastics say GSX not gs500 on them. (???)

Questions/Issues:
1. The choke is a bit sporadic, and it will not start cold with out it being set midways. The bike revs a bit when the choke is set. I can also here a sucking air sound when the choke is set and the engine is cold. Once it warms up all is well.

2. The clutch is was way out of adjustment per the factory manual. I adjusted it on the handle when i first got it but its still outa spec, i may need to adjust it on the engine side(?)

2. With the mods listed above it seems the carbs need to be jetted, I dunno if this has already been done I have no history on the bike. What size jets would you guys suggest (i know the search button)? or should i just focus on learning to ride?

Any input would be great, after i fix the oil leak or attempt to I might take it to a mechanic and have them look it over.

Your choke issue is nothing to worry about. The GS being cold blooded needs choke when it is cold. It also has it's sweet spots on the choke lever. Mine likes to be set midway too. As for the sucking air sound, this maybe because of the airbox mod? Im not sure as mine is all stock. Good luck with your bike and riding  :thumb:

I got it to work

You say that is a 93? Seems to have a more modern tank and rear on it.  :dunno_black:

The previous owner said that the guy he bought it from swapped the tank and put a GSX rear on it, he didnt seem to be sure about it and im only a month deep into learning about bikes.

I have no idea about the real history of the bike. The title say 1993.

I'd have to wait and see where that oil leak is but I'd say that withstanding you made a Great! deal.

I bet you it was a crash repair. But, it looks like the owner did a nice job, so no worries.

BTW: The GSX thing is a sticker. The tail is from a GS500F.

Thats what i was thinking, the frame is in great condition though. anything else i need to check on this after i get my oil leak fixed?

My plans are:
1. oil leak
2.brake pads -bleed system
3.Carbs- check jets and clean

Did you seal the leak? :dunno_black:

Still working on it, one of the guys advised that the dipstick o-ring would be a better place to start prior to the gasket

OK, well the experts will comment on it soon. I am Bumping to help you.
