Was riding to work this morning, loving the 55 degree weather in December, you know. Less than a mile from my exit a pickup forced me off the interstate onto the shoulder where I hit some sand right after a offramp. Long story short, I slid for roughly 100 feet after dropping it at ~65MPH, was able to slow down from 80MPH luckily. The bike slid along the pavement and into the grass, I was right behind her. I got up and rode to work, not hurt except for bruises and a sprained wrist, my jacket has 4 holes in it, ripped through my riding pants and put a big hole in the front of my jeans, and tore the steel reinforced palm off of each of my gloves.

Anyways, I'm very glad for my gear, I never ride without my jacket, gloves, and helmet, and it saved me from a lot of rash.

That's the difference that having gear makes. Some people don't get to. Glad you made it out okay, how bad is the bike?

Try dropping down to 4 Oreos and set your pilot screw 3 turns out.

Forks bent, upper and right fairings are toast, mirror's gone, peg is bent, bar end slider was nowhere to be found. I dunno how much damages are really, luckily I have full coverage insurance so I'm not too worried about it.

The only thing that really pisses me off about the whole accident is the guy who hit me and forced me off didn't stop, and neither did four cars who were following him. Not that I needed any help, but what if I had broken my leg or some shaZam!? People really don't care here, I swear, lol.

I actually dropped the bike on the other side after I picked it up in a daze, so I bent my clutch lever as well.

Same here, I live in Atlanta. Every time I've had an 'incident' and people were around, they have honked at me for being in the way. I'm just laying there, staring at the sky in a daze, and they seem to think getting to the mall ahead of the crowd is more important.

Glad you're ok, tykho.

This is why I say... it's not that cars don't see you, they do, they just don't care.

So good you're ok...!!!---Thanks God!!! :D  :thumb:
Thank yourself too for using your gear...

and maybe it has nothing to do with where you live in world--people are the same...drivers too :dunno_black:

Glad you survived.  Now you know to look out for inattentive drivers.

Sounds like you live in New Orleans! People around here dont care about bikes. They look right thru you. I had a guy gome over on me whiule looking right at me. Then he got mad when I kicked his truck. He told me "I drive big truck, you move out of way" I swear some people have no respect for others.

Sorry to hear about your crash, but very glad you were wearing gear. Hope you heal up quickly (days 2-3 post-crash can be the worst), and hope you're able to get your bike fixed quickly, too.  :kiss3:

Thanks for your thoughts, I am really glad I did ok. No real big injuries, my left arm and wrist hurt pretty bad, but Ibuprofen is enough to dull the pain. Could have been so much worse, I'm very grateful. My biggest concern is with my insurance and if they decide to find me at fault, but the truck put scratches on my mirror and pushed in my clutch lever from the impact, and theres some marks on my fairing so hopefully that's enough, since nobody stopped to be a witness to the accident. I'm not really sure how insurance laws work here, I work for Progressive, but only in IT, lol.

Looks like they may be totaling the bike as well, there were some scratches on the frame, so if that's the case, it looks like I'll be picking up a used Ninja 636 off CL =)

glad you're relatively OK!

I live in NYC and kind of agree with "mister" - other drivers see you, but they think that since they have bigger vehicle they have a right to go before you... madness!

get well soon mate!

ATGATT is a goot policy, sadly I am a poor example of it, I wear gear for weather not for the crash ... I know, bad.

Wow, glad your ok. Being that they don't have someone's insurance to bill aka at fault then your premiums will go up. Well if it were Florida it would let's put it that way! When I was run off the turn pike in my car i hit the guard rail no one stopped either. Although, I was not "at fault" the premiums went up.

Make sure you get new gear too.  :thumb:

If the insurance co has noone else to get their money reimbursed from, whether you're at fault or not, your premiums will go up.

We'll see, my buddy has Allstate and he was in a hit in run which totalled his CBR out, he got the $9k payout and his premium stayed the same. Like I said, no idea on Colorado insurance laws. I actually asked an underwriter about it and he said that as long as I'm not at fault my premium should stay the same as it is now.

Yeah, Florida is the home of lets screw everybody Uhm I mean "no fault law". Even when someone hit my car and their insurance paid out my insurance still tried to up my charges because they had to "process" the claim. That's why when my bike was knocked over twice at my apartment complex I didn't even call the insurance co to inquire because that goes on your record as " a possible claim".

When I was getting my insurance changed to Progressive I mentioned about my car getting broken into. They said oh can we get the dates etc.. for our records. They use it so they can increase rates for people in your zip code even thought they never paid out for it. I think that is wrong.

Hope your doing well.

Thats what gear is for! Im glad your (relatively) ok. Like you said, you were able to get up and go to work, rather then leaving a 100' blood streak on the highway.

As for people not stropping im not surprised. I was in a hit and run also, and no witnesses stopped either. It was probably best the guy who hit me didnt stop, because i probably would have beaten the living crap out of him. When people hit me or do something stupid on the road, they get my full on rage.
