My crash :(

December 16th, 2010. I was on my way to my last final for school, I started changing lanes. The driver in front of me started changing lanes then put on his signal light, I hit the brakes because he was about to hit me. My back tire locked up and fishtailed to the left. I started steering to the left THEN he saw me and swerved to the left. I almost hit him again so I applied more to the front brake. I got really close to his car, then the next thing I remember is laying on the ground in the middle of the street. Someone told me that the ambulance is on its way. Then I remember being in the ambulance and they asked me a few questions. Then I wake up in the hospital. That morning I worked from midnight to 9am so I was in a rush and (this is the part I hate) didn't wear my jacket or gloves. Just my helmet.

I have a few scrapes to remind me to wear my gear ALL the time and I suffered from a concussion. I'm not allowed to work till Wednesday and the bike has some parts on it's way.

Upper fairing, front panel, right side lower fairing, right side mirror, the handlebar, the front brake master cylinder cover, the right side bar end, right side passenger foot peg, the front stay, the contact breaker cover and emblem need to be replaced.

I don't know how long I was laying there in the middle of the street, but I'm glad I didn't get ran over.

So, I have a question: is there a safe and efficient way to bend the front stay back to normal? the part that is bent is the piece that goes to the right mirror.

Sorry to hear about your accicident. It sounds like you'll be OK, which is good! ATTGAT all the way!

...i have no advise on the faring stay, however...

Toogoofy317

Wow, glad your okay. No thoughts on the stay however.

I try to never ride the bike when I'm in a hurry. When I did well it got me hurt too so no if I'm late then no stay off the bike. It is way too tempting to twist that throttle or to be inattentive and drop the bike on one's ankle.

Hope the professor let you take your final. If it would have been my professor it could have been armageddon and she would have nailed me. My "B" was because I missed one day being in the hospital with an arrythmia and didn't make through a second class and so she gigged me for 10 points. So, I was 1.8 points from an "A".

Sorry to hear about your accident man, I just had one last week as well, at least you're ok though.

I agree with the not riding when you're in a hurry, I try to give myself a comfortable amount of time, have a smoke and let her warm up for 10 min or more before I leave =)

I locked up the back wheel in my accident too, it's real hard to not do that when you're in a panic, I think I'm gonna start exclusively using the front brake from now on though, I hit a ton of sand on the road so I was going down either way, but I think that avoiding that rear end slide situation can save you a ton of grief.

That's what made me fall...my back brake was locked up so I applied the front brake more until it locked up, sending me shooting to the ground.

Well the bike is my only transportation other than public transport and honestly speaking: public transportation isn't the best when one is in a hurry.

I got to take my final as well, got an "A" in the class...now my business I'm not too sure about.
How have you been lately Mary? Everything with the heart alright now?

The ticker seems to be stable for now just that one hospitalization in october was two days but one of them was school.

Yeah, having one form of transportation stinks. It is nice having the choice.

PM me your address. I need to find it out in the garage. No charge other than whatever it is going to cost to ship it to you.

Glad to hear you're doing better.
Being a college student, the bike is the cheapest way to go. Insurance is 120/year. gas is <$10. And the bike itself was cheap. I haven't come across registration yet, so we'll just have to wait till May to see how expensive that'll be.

Well, nevermind about the question. I just manhandled it back to normal.

So, good news!

I'm riding again
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

All road rash is healed and my head is all better. My girlfriend has seen a change in my riding style (a good change) since the last time she rode with me. And I'm making sure to wear my gear, all the time.

List what parts you still need. I know I have many that you first listed.

ragecage23

Contact breaker cover
Emblem
Right side bar end (the whole assembly)
all of the clips for the upper fairing
the right side tail fairing
and the screw that holds the milage reset thingy in

That's all that I can remember right now. If you need me to go more in depth just let me know.

I got the little screw thingy for the trip meter. Sitting on the computer desk.

Have a dozen bar ends. Do you have the rubber grommet for it?
Fairing brackets: Can you be more specific? There are lots of little parts plus those black plastic rivet type things. My box-o-parts seems to have a bunch of brackets but would like to know exactly which ones.

I do have these:

No new type tail plastics.

Toogoofy317

If you are talking about the little black clips you use to hold in the black part of the fairing you can get a box of 20 for $6 at Discount auto parts. Just bring one in with you so you have the right size!

@Mary, how would you like to work out for that little screw thingy? I would love to take it off your hands.
@Adidasguy, the main things I need for the bar end is the balancer and the screw. I would prefer to have no scratches on it as well. And what I meant for the clips were these:

It's number 9 in the photo. I believe there is 4 of them.
