Cleaned up added light wiring inside the cowling so the dealer won't have to fuss with it when Suzi gets her 4k check up. Fairing has to come off to do that, so I made sure all extra wiring was cleaned up and on plugs.

Put Buddha's bullet aluminum fork brace on Suzi. Also put on R&G Racing crash sliders. While I don't intend to crash, car drivers may have a different opinion on this so better to be safe.

Also moved a very strong neodinium magnet from the frame and cemented it to the inside bottom front of the cowling. The magnetic field will extend out farther since it is on plastic rather than the metal frame. When on metal, the magnetic field will stay closer to the steel. Should make it even better at traffic signals. Already it worked really great.

And filled her up with gas and added some fuel conditioner.

Love the sliders. I'm thinking of doing the same.  :thumb:

Wow! I'm please so many of you like those crash sliders. I ordered them direct from R and G Racing. Also ordered the bar ends, muffler guards and the chain toe guards there.

http://www.rg-racing.com/browseType/Crash_Protectors/Suzuki/GS500_FullyFaired.aspx

At first I was worried how it would look. Then I did see a picture of a bike with them. So I wasn't worried then about cutting the holes in the fairings for them.

Went to the post office and found a parcel waiting for me that contained...

Unwrapped them, reset the time, put them on...

For those interested, the clock and thermometer are from Clocks For Bikes, but from their ebay store where they sell under BackStreetBiker as well as Clocks For Bikes.

I got it from this listing cause we use Celsius temp not Fahrenheit - they have other listings if you want a clock/thermo package with temps in Fahrenheit.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160513889329

Their website is http://www.clocks4bikes.com/ and their ebay store is http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/clocks4bikes/

For people in Aust, the package was mailed on Dec 4 and I got it today Dec 23. Pretty standard for stuff from the US even though the US Postal System tell people only one week.

Came with hex key to install on handlebars and a battery - which I assume is a spare  :dunno_black:

When you order, make sure you tell them what size you want. While the listing said it was for 1" bars my GS has 7/8" bars and I had to tell them so they'd ship the right one. Very good service. Quick to answer any questions you might have.

In other GS500 news... Booked in the bike for its 36,000 warranty service. Have been using Motul 5100 am gonna try Motul 300V and see how it goes.

Hey mister,

Thanks for the pointer. I've been looking for some place to get a stick-on thermometer for my DRZ. I'll bet they can do it for me. I've emailed Ross to see. If they can, I'll probably also order the clock/thermometer set for my GS. I'll probably get white. I know that's sort of tacky but my aging eyes need all the help they can get when trying to read those puny little things.

Stripped my bike down from the crash and found that my front stay is bent as well as two of the fairing brackets.

A couple months ago, I heard a rattling. Pulling up at a gas station I found I'd lost 14 and 15 off the chain guard

So a quick zip tie fix (I always carry some) and away I went.

Unable to find what I needed at a hardware store, genuine was my option for a whopping few bucks. So I've had the washer and screw for a month or more. What the hell, it's raining, I've got a spare 46.8 seconds, I'll change em over... (before/after)

Now I'm no longer redneck/bushie  :woohoo:

Good thinking on the initial fix.  Does anyone besides you really notice? Sometimes I'd rather be redneck/bushie and riding than broke.

Just kidding. You feel better about it and that's all that matters because feeling good is all motorcycling is about, really.

I've got piles of all the screws and washers for a GS500E or F if you ever need one again.
Be sure to use thread lock. They'll stay there longer.
Got a few chain guards if you really do lose it. Also got an extra stainless steel one. Also got a combo chain guard/rear hugger I never used.

After being gone for 8 days in Berlin (was supposed to be 4 but east coast show "stranded" me at the Swissotel :woohoo:) and had to drop 2 days in NYC on the return

Don't know if that was good or bad: Bought more adidas in Berlin and chocolates in the extra days and missed the adidas stores in NYC on Wooster and Broadway. So I guess it was OK. :icon_lol:

Went to give Suzi and Junior a ride in freezing weather just to show them I didn't forget them. What attitude! Took a long time to get them started. What  :flipoff: attitude! Then they were happy. Each had about a 4 mile ride.

They might have started easier if I showed Suzi her new key fob: miniature pair of adidas Superstars shoes. Junior got a king's crown key fob from Frederick the Great's castle gift shop. I'll give them their presents tomorrow.  :kiss3:

Twisted

Sprayed WD-40 into the ignition barrel as it was becoming a PITA to turn lately. Worked a treat. Also sprayed some in the speedo cable in an attempt to cure a niggling buzz I get at certain speeds and at certain points in the rev range, mainly lower speeds. Outcome = Failed  :icon_sad:

It has got me buggered where it is coming from  :icon_confused:

Streetfighters magazine put up a short little blurb on their website about the bike. Kinda cool

Guess that's more of "what has someone else done for your bike two weeks ago" though

Addy, that Engraved chain guard you have, the one with GS500 In it...

Where did you get it? What kinda coin did it take to acquire?

In other news... got myself a new lid, had a mechanical maestro give my bike its 36,000 service and greeted her this morning and promised her we'd go for a ride as soon as this never-ending rain ends.
