rough idle, weird sound, high rev's

i thought i fixed my problem of having my engine idle at 5000 rpm when it get's hot when i losend the throttle cable, but nooooo...

i start the bike, runs great, warm's up in one minute and idles good...then i go for a short ride and when i come to a stop the idle isn't as smoth as before...then the rpm raise a little and then i here a sound from the bottom of the engine "klunk" or something like that...it sounds like when you shift from Neutral to 1st gear....and when that happens the rpm lower a little, then jump back up and then the same noise and the rpm drop...

i'm thinking that maybe some gears are lose or the clutch is bad...

about the high idle, all i can say is, when i come to a stop the engine revs to about 3000 and then to 5000 and that's when i turn the bike off because i don't want to see the rpm go to 11 000  :o

i did the rejjet with 150 mains, 40 pilots, 2 #6 washers under each needle and 3 turns out on the are mix screw...i didn't do the method where you close the mix screws and warm up the bike and when adjust them...i just set them to 3 turns out because everyone else did that..


does anyone know what is the problem with my bike?

I didn't see this till now...
But I believe you have air entering the thing. That is actually hinted at by the extra noise... that noise is escaping from where the air is entering. Check if you put in the o rings under the carb tops, the plastic caps on the tops should be good and not ripped, and the vacuum line should be connected to left carb and be in good shape. WD40 around the manifolds also may help. Look for idle going up and smoke in the exhaust. Air screws at 3 and adjust from there is the right way to do it. You are supposed to have them equal to each other which some people dont consider.

Yeah, I had this same problem, and as it turned out, I had a ripped boot where the carb connects to the motor. I replaced it and my GS Went back to it's normal lawnmower-esque state of running. :thumb:

i will check the carbs tomarow for any broken or ripped rubers...

i did spray some wd40 on the carb boots but the rpm didn't raise..


what about the noise coming from the bottom of the engine...if feels like the bike is trying to engage the gear by itself?

what do you guys know about trans oil...how can i check for oil in the trans?

Its only got 1 oil. Motor oil and its in the bottom of the motor... checkvia dipstick.
