As the results for the "which sound do you prefer in biked videos" poll are not really overwhelming one way or the other, I figured I do both. So have made one with some backing tracks and another of just the raw engine sound. So here they are.

No music, just the sound of the engine - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzfR2cLvi9I

Music backing to set the mood - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkXjZJctZkk

On the first run over The Hill, you'll see the GS go by a blue ZX10R (which had slowed for a speed camera, but which, for some reason, hasn't sped up again), then change lanes, drift wide and go back out. That wasn't trying to cut the corner for a faster run through. That was, getting into the left lane, looking in the mirror for where the Kwaka is, drifiting wide as a result not looking ahead, noticing too late, mentalling saying "screw it" and letting the drift continue to get back in the other lane, leaving the inside free if the Kwaka wants to blow past on a mini straight.

This will probably be the only time you see a GS gain ground on a Busa (third run), then the bikes hit the bend, get a straight and away he goes. After which the bike followed the rest of the way is a B-King ridden by a woman - which you would have wondered about near the end when you see stuff (blond hair) waving from under the helmet.

Glad you're posting more videos...need something to "quench the thirst" until the ice thaws...(hopefully in March or April)...then I can start playing with my new toy...VHoldR non-HD camera...might try it out over the winter in my truck, but that isn't the same...maybe I'll see if I can rent a snowmobile for a day to play with the camera...that could be fun!!

Later.

Why your rpm's so high?

Going up a steep hill, plus, don't want to lose momentum and still want to have some good acceleration out of the bends if needed.

Watch the first run. No gear changes but the RPM varies between 6k and 8k. If it wasn't in that gear, when the bike drops to 6k in this gear it would have been even lower rpm in a higher gear and would have needed to change down to this gear to accelerate and keep momentum, but doing that would have lost some speed/momentum/acceleration ability as a result. And then would have been playing a little catch up - lagging just that little bit as speed is tried to be gotten back.

If you just want to ride this Hill normal, then a gear or two up and multiple changes along the way as you need to combat engine lugging, no problems. But this was not just a normal cruise. This was faster pace. Normal riding doesn't normally get above 6k rpm.

Nice vid Mister. I could almost feel the vibs of the GS through the runs. I reckon you shoulda tried to poke your nose up the inside of the Busa though. Just a little "Yeh thats right, you almost got passed by a GS" lol.

Here's the version with music - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkXjZJctZkk I'll add it to the original post...

Cause I wanted to gauge which was the better before making them public. I mean, I could make them Both public instead of one  :dunno_black:

I've been lurking for months now, and didn't realize you and michealrossonline were the same person. I've been watching your YT vids longer than I've been watching this board.

They're a nice escape on days when I have to spend the daylight hours locked in this cubicle. Thanks for 'em!

See...I'm not the only slow one...it took me a bit to put those together as well...Micheal Ross...MR...Mister...a bit of a progression (I felt kinda dumb when I clued in...but now I'm not alone...sorry flatraccoon :icon_mrgreen:)

Anyway, how do you keep the wind noise out...I don't think I heard any at all on the raw footage, and definately not in the one with music...is it software in the camera, special mic attachment...tape over the mic?

I'm working on a stand for my VHoldR (only comes with a flat sticky that I don't think will stay on the helmet...looking at a type of tripod to mount the sticky to...)

The GoPro camera sits in a waterproof casing - so yes, I could take it underwater. The, by itself, blocks out a substantial amount of noise. As well as that, the SD camera I use has two settings for recoding volume - Hi, Lo. Hi picks up everything and can overwhelm the recording to the point of it not recording any sound cause there is too much of it. The "lo" setting reduces the sensitivity so soft noises are ignored. Together with the sound reduction from the case, the wind noises is cancelled out  :thumb:

Guy at work uses a sticky - GoPro comes with slightly curved stickies - and sticks it on his helmet. He rides dirt bikes and has no probs. Other's I know have stick theirs to various parts on the car, other sections of their bike, helmets, and there ai't no way the GoPro sticky mounts are coming off at all.

BTW, the new HD GoPros have two rear doors for the case. A sealed one and one with holes to allow more sound in. Unfortunately, I am told they do Not have a Recording Volume Option - just Hi. So the sound tends to get overwhelmved, so I am told.

For a mount, visit a cell phone store or GPS store. Besides the suction mount which I use that came with the camera, I have a suction mount from a cell phone that the camera attachment can screw into. I removed the cell attachment and the camera fit right in. I have used that on occasion but I get a noise that comes through, I think it comes through cause the attachment isn't a 100% smooth fit, I have to gently force a small bit and, I think, that slight mismatched causes small friction movements which come out on the video like something tapping on the camera. Quite annoying. So I haven't used it in a while.

I tend not to like camera mounts too much. Not that they are bad per se, but because people don't use them properly. Such as, show me footage of the run or whatever, but don't show me footage of you looking left, right, left, right, left, right as you try to turn a corner, cause that'll just make me motion sick. I think it'd be better for a bike mounted camera and record your vocal into an MP3 or something, then put them together in Post Production.

So when are you gonna test the waterproof-ness of the camera Mister? You got scuba gear for the GS?

You're welcome!  Wait, "old age"?!  What are you saying? :o

That is the kind of music I like, though. Edgar Winter Group - Frankenstein, Eric Johnson - Cliffs of Dover, Rush - Malignant Narcissism, etc.

Ok, I am old!

Well, you may not be old, but you taste in music certainly is...wow, Edgar Winter...you are either a baby boomer, or you enjoyed your parents music...never heard of Eric Johnson...Rush, their music is good, but the lead singer shouldn't sing...(my opinion of course...never been accused of being a great critic, just critical  :icon_mrgreen:)
