I have this spray I use to clean my iPad...called AR alcohol free.  It's supposed to be safe for coatings and plastic, sat least as far as I can tell.  Should I use it?
Good day to you!

I just use dish soap. I know that doesn't answer your question though.

Try taking the visor off and testing a little section that you dont look through. If it doesnt do any harm, why not?

You could probably do this without even taking the visor off, come to think of it....

I use Windex... or Ajax dish washing liquid soap if it is really dirty. Works fine for me

Keep in mind the kind of cloth you're cleaning it with as well. You could use the perfect solution but if you're using a coarse towel you might still be scratching your visor.

A coarse towel is just fine as long as it's clean and doesn't contain wood fibres or similar scratchy materials. I wouldn't hesitate to use, for instance, one of my bath towels. In fact I normally carry a washcloth that is relatively rough. But it is just the usual polyester/cotton blend. I like it a bit rough  :kiss3: because it helps lift bugs off more easily than a smooth cloth that tends to want to smear them first.

But you're absolutely right that it is important to use a wiper that won't scratch plastic. Any paper product will scratch like crazy. That includes those nice soft Kleenexes, Scotties and other brands of nosewipers.

I use Plexus plastic cleaner. It's great stuff. It cleans bugs and mud off with minimal rubbing. It provides a surface that gunk doesn't adhere to so after you use it once, subsequent cleanings are even easier. It is antifogging. It will even restore your shield to clear vision if it has minor scratching. I used to be a purist and stick with cold water and maybe a bit of mild dish soap if there was some real grunge stuck on. But after using my buddy's Plexus to clean off bugs in the middle of a couple of rides this summer I'm a believer. I won't use anything else.

Ar worked...but the towel I used deposited these lame fibers in the inside of my visor.  No big, but imma have to use a microfiber next time.
Good day to you!

Be careful selecting your microfibre wiper. I have some cheap ones that are terrible for leaving really fine fibres all over the visor. I've only got one that doesn't do that and I can't remember where I got it. I found that just grabbing a washcloth that's been through the washing machine a few times seems to work really well. When it starts to get a bit gungy I just toss it in the wash and grab another one from the linen closet. Don't know what my wife will do if she catches me but we've got so many I doubt she'll notice.  :)

- A tissue and fog breath
- A baby wipe
- wet a paper towel and let it Sit on the bugs for a brief moment to soften them, swoosh around, dry with another paper towel
- moist towelette from KFC
- safety spec individual cleaners - such as from Uvex

I just use a damp dish cloth and then dry it with some paper towel. Seems to work fine and nothing is left behind on the visor.

To the folks recommending using tissues and paper towels, compare your visors to a visor that has been cleaned with cloths that don't have wood in them and you will be astonished at how badly scratched your visors are. Paper towels are just about the worst things you can use. They leave micro scratches all over the visor. Riding into early morning or late afternoon sun or into car headlights at night will show how bad those micro scratches can make your vision.

We must have Softer tissues and paper towels than you guys stateside, cause my visor gets more banged up from hard bugs and rocks and schit than any micro, can't really see them, scratches caused by tissues.

Or like today, my new lid is on the seat of the bike, I'm standing next to it and all is good. I turn away, feel a sudden gust of wind and BAM, off the sart it goes onto the gravel visor first. Now it's got scratches on it. That kind of schit messes your visor long before you can't see due to microscopic tissue scratches.

I used to use Windex (which contains ammonia) on my visor.  After a year it delaminated...

Now I use water or peroxide; so far, so good.

Plus, I *always* use a microfiber cloth.  I've been wearing glasses for 38 years, so I have plenty of first-hand experience as to what leaves infintesimal scratches (that, of course, accrete dust and grime).  Plus Mrs. Bad Example works in optometry, so she gets tons of microfiber cloths for free.
