Is 2001 Husqvarna 125cc with seized motor worth $700?

I don't have pics for now.
It's my cousin's friend's bike and my cousin says it is in good shape except for the motor of course.

I don't have more details right now.

I would appreciate your opinion.

Well what is it worth considering the motor worked? Then find out how much money and labor would cost to rebuild the thing. Personally, ive never liked Husqs. Stick with the Jap bikes.

You can pick a a RUNNING Husq for that price....

I forgot to mention.
I need this bike to be sent to Poland. I would use it there when I go visit. No place to ride motocross in NYC.

That HUSQ is already in Poland, if I buy here (NY) I would have to arrange shipping, which is about $500 and time consuming.

My cousin also has a friend who helped him rebuild his bike so I was hoping he could work on 'mine' for cheap.

I hope it makes more sense now.

2 stroke or 4 stroke? 2 strokes require engine rebuilds on a fairly regular basis. The good news is that 2stroke rebuilds are relatively easy and inexpensive compared to 4 stroke, and the parts are cheap and readily available. There's a reasonable chance you might be able to un-size the motor and rebuild it yourself.

kml.krk

it's 2 stroke.

My other cousin once did a rebuild like that (without buying new piston and cylinder).
The bike ran OK but never felt the same.
Motor felt kinda dull and unresponsive.

I would rarely ride the bike. Maybe 2-5 times a year so I do not want to invest any serious money into it.

As a kid I always dreamed about having motocross bike, but here in NYC there is really no good place to ride so I bought GS.
But I still want motocross bike badly.

2 strokes are very sensitive to jetting, IIRC. Most of the racers around here spend a huge amount of time trying to get that right.

kml.krk

I am not going to race it so stock jets would be fine with me.

All I care about is that it runs so I can go and have a little fun in the woods.

I'd worry about spending too much money on the thing and still not having anything to ride.  Honestly I think I would try to look for something for maybe a little more money, but that's at least running. Or tell them you'll buy it for like $1100 if they get it running..

the thing is that if they get it running they can sell it for about 1500-1800... that is the whole idea of buying something not running but easy to fix.
you can get a great deal.
in worst case I'd have to buy the engine in the junk yard but I don't expect that much trouble.
Besides it's not GS so even bottom end rebuild is not that expensive or difficult.

tbh id get it, dis assemble engine, remove jug, hone it, re ring it, reassemble it. clean carb, and go. NOW since youd not use it often is there anyoen there that could run the thing every so often?, if not, bring a spark plug wiht you, ( or replace it upon arrival. been a long while since i visited poland. so ive no idea what plugs cost there.

If it has a Nikasil Cylinder you could be talking $400+ for replating. If it's in great shape other than the Locked Motor I would go for it.Try to Source a new Piston,Rings,Cylinder and Gaskets to take with you.May be able to find good used ones and Save a Lot of $$$.BUT What if the Bottom end is Locked.

interesting turn of events.

they guy is working on the bike as we speak! (actually my cousins friend does the work so the seller is not involved in fixing the bike)
He said that a cylinder is in good shape, he already changed piston and rings.

Soon they will test ride it.
My cousin who rides YZ 250F is supposed to test ride it too, and he will be there to make sure the bike is fixed properly.

If anything is iffy my cousin will tell me- he doesn't make money on this transaction, so it's not in his interest to lie to me.

By the way, thanks for the link to Husq parts. I will add them to my Watched list

Also, bike would be sitting in my cousins garage so he could take it for a spin once in a while to make sure it doesn't rust internally or anything like that.
If I need small parts I would definitely buy them here, and take with me when I go visit good old Europe :D (spark plugs, gaskets etc)
