I'm sure that a lot of people will be going to tracks this year...I'll be going to drag strips and other tracks...What are the best mods to go faster?

I did my own jetkit with a K&N pod, gsxr exhaust and will put a 15 tooth front sprocket as soon as i get it....

one mod i would like to know more about is saving weight on the parts like the rear brake rotor and rear wheel...maybe even sprocket..
would the best way to save weight on the brake rotor be to drill biger holes in it? will a replacement brake rotor save more weight (maybe gsxr smaller rotor)

rear wheel? is there a lighter 17" wheel out there?

what will you be doing?

werase643

I'm sure that a lot of people will be going to tracks this year...I'll be going to drag strips and other tracks...What are the best mods to go faster?......faster or quicker...can't aford to have both

I didn't know that anyone really was serious about drag racing a GS500
I think that bsides the jetting and pipe, jettisonig all the weight you can, and maybe a bore job. you would want to tie the front end all the way down, set up a set of clipons so you get as far into the bike for Areodynamic reasons, and set a rev limiter, there should not be to many other things to do to the bike, oh a longer swingarm maybe, but does it even have enough power to try to wheelie on launch?  Oh the clutch will need a upgrade as the stock one will not take the dumps required for good starts.
Now as far as road racing,  I love to do bott races on my GS, I put a 95 gixxer front end, larger rear wheel so I can run a 150, gixxer rear shock, pipe and jets and now it is really stable in the turns and has around 45 HP which means I am around mid pack and having a blast.
Noone in this class is as serious as the 600ss clas or better so it is a cool class to race if you just want to go out and have fun, I was racing the SV650 class but those guys are getting more and more serious and it is getting cutthrout out there. However that said a SV with a few suspension mods is a awesome bike
keeping it on the street

i can't buy a faster bike! why, because in ontario we pay 10 times for insurance then what we would pay if we lived in US...
why do i want to do this? well, same reason people change to a katana rear shock, put progressive springs, rejet, put 150 rear tires, put a different pipe on....those mods don't have to be done but make the difference and that's why they do it...

i want to drill biger holes in my rear rotor because i belive that it will make a difference...i want to put a 150 rear tire because it will make a difference when i go to a track with tight corners and so on...

i like my GS and wouldn't take a EX500 or a ninja 600 if someone wanted to trade for my GS500...

i just want to make my GS better

werase643

Thanks for the mod info

well ok, we pay about 1500/year on any year GS500...that's for a 20 yearold rider....that 1500 is just liability  :guns:

if i got any 600 cc bike except the katana or bandit 600 it would cost about 4000/year for liability only...katana and bandit 600 is about 2500/year for liability

werase643

do you have to have ins?

GRU

yeah, we have to...there are good and bad things of living in ontario canada

Adam R

Wow 1500 is really high for liability.  When I was 18 I had a Honda Hurricane 600 and paid around $450 a year for bare-bones insurance - and I thought that was high!

Have you shopped around?
