Just curious, would the exhaust from an '04 or newer GS500F fit on my 2002 GS500E? i noticed there are a lot more options for the F and i'm looking for something raspy and sporty sounding.

Thanks,

Would fit. Stock would sound the same. You'd need to get a V&H or Jardine or something else to get her to sound more like an obnoxious Harley. (Won't be that bad but will be louder than stock)

I was looking at aftermarket exhausts, primarily from Vance&Hines, Jardine, & Yoshimura, with my eye on the Jardine.. The reason behind my question was I couldn't find anything but V&H for my model year (GS500K2) but was able to find many more options on the F models (2004-present) so I was curious if for example the Jardine from an '04 GS500F would fit ... They didn't modify the frame going into the F model in such a way that would make such a conversion impossible did they?

I was sure I had an e-mail from a yoshi dealer saying that their TRS slip on for the GS500F would fit my 2002 GS500, but I can't seem to find it

AFAIK any GS500 exhaust would be interchangeable.

What aftermarket exhaust can you put on and still use the centerstand?  I know the bike I got has D&D but the PO had to remove the centerstand.  I believe Vance & Hines you have to remove the centerstand as well.

There are a few models that won't go from "E" to "F" because of the oil cooler other than that I think just centerstand issues. But, I think buddha said all you had to do was attach a piece of tire or something rubber and it would be fine too  :dunno_white:

I have V&H on Junior. Center stand still there.
You do have to loosen one nut for it to mount the V&H then re-tighten it.
Maybe your PO thought that meant to remove it?
You can see the pix of Junior on the center stand with the V&H.

PO had it set up for racing so it might have just been removed for weight savings too.  I don't know.

I do know that it's a pain now with the D&D - I have to loosen the exhaust just to change oil.

I've had a 100% stock E running next to a 100% stock F and the F sounded better with the factory exhaust. That could be due to the fact that the F has larger diameter pipes and a slightly larger exhaust can. As far as fitment.... I can't tell ya.

navyeagleeye86

I'm wondering if a Jardine full exhaust system from an "F" would fit my "E" ...

Pelikan

I know that the '04 F has a smaller diameter pipe when compared to '05 and later (which I think is a carry-over from the E).  The Yosh TRS slip-on will not fit '04 and earlier bikes without a modification (i.e. taking it to an exhaust place and having them weld on an adapter for ~$50).  I know a lot of people have V&H on the older bikes, and from what I gather the Jardine will fit too with no problem.

And there are more threads out there, but I think the consensus is, it'll fit no prob.
Good day to you!

The gasket is the same part number which means the opening on the engine is the same diameter.

Frame mounting in the rear is the same as far as I can tell. Should fit.
The 01-02 "E" is basically an "F" without the fairing. It is not the same as the 89-00 "E"'s.
They did change the header bolt from one with a shoulder to one without and added a washer. Whoopie. Like that makes any difference.

navyeagleeye86

Awesome, thanks guys, I think I'm locked in on an "F" Jardine full exhaust for my '02 "E" ... Aftermarket parts seem really hard to come by with this bike though, I can't even find aftermarket taillights or fender eliminators anywhere!?!

2001-2002 "E" is pretty much the same as 2004-present "F" minus the fairing.

Just ask for what you're looking for. The stuff is available. Lots of us have tons of extra parts or can point you to where to get them.
