The reason why you should try and leave yourself an escape route and eyes on the mirrors when stopped. Although it's harder to do than it sounds in traffic. Glad the guy was ok.

Wow, my mind was in the gutter! See, what you guys are doing to precious, and innocent little 'ole me!

But, yeah I always leave a way to move up in case something like that happens. My eyes are always glued to the rear view mirror. Just because you are stopped doesn't mean you can let your guard down.

Holy Crap! But yeah I would have had to walk away from her cause I might have went nuts beat the crap out of her or her car and it would have all been on video. Lucky to walk away from that one.

madjak30

He would have just got his foot down when she took out his bike...good call on walking away...

Revzilla posted this on facebook a couple days ago; I watched it in class on my iPod. Got me really worked up, because I deal with inattentive drivers everyday on my walk to class. I pounded on a few hoods last quarter.

Why are you not waiting for them to stop before getting in front of them to the point you need to pound hoods.

Screw demanding your right of way. I treat all vehicles as if they don't see me. Makes life as a pedestrian more reassuring.

Yep, don't center on the car in front of you.  I tend to stay in the left tire track.  Plus it keeps you out of the oil at stoplights.  A good habit to have.

Also, note how close the motorcyclist was to the car in front of him.  He was in the shadow of the vehicle in front of him.  Not good placement.

Yup...always a good practice to atleast watch the car behind you pull up and stop before you relax a little...one car as a buffer is better than just your back end!!  Also, leave atleast a bike length infront of you so that you have options for an exit.  :thumb:

I almost never ride in the center of my lane for the same reasons...if a car is leaking, it will be leaking in the center of the lane...and any fluids out of a vehicle are slippery, best to not test that theory...

True that. But in this case I think the car in front actually helped him by not letting the bike get launched to far after the shunt.

madjak30

Yes, and it was amazing he stayed on his feet...but still best to not be there!!

That would have been way worse if it was raining...she wouldn't have slowed down as much...

The sun was in front of him, which makes him disappear into the shadow of the vehicle in front of him.  His shadow will blend in with the vehicle in front of him.

Also, she is looking into the sun, which in turn will make it harder for her to see, expecially if her windshield is dirty, then she'll get nothing but glare.

Watching it though, if he hadn't been there she would have rear ended the next car anyway. No mater what he did with being to close, hiding in the car's shadow etc why is this old bat allowed to have a license?
