I guess I just don't get the 49..

Because I'm passing it off as a 49cc (like I thought it was originally) when it is actually a 79cc. The decals will make it a little more convincing to a cop if I get stopped for not having a tag.

In other news, she now runs, and a million times smoother than ever  :woohoo:

New windscreen installed - Givi A660.
Haven't had the chance to test it - bike is still garaged for the time being.
Pics to come.

Today, I took my sadly neglected bike for a 345k round trip. First time I have had the time or inclination to go riding since before christmas.
I like a non-sequitur as much as the next Giraffe.

Just 345k?  :o Now, if that was 400,000 , I'd say you were lying.

Pretty sure he means 345 kilometers

Ayah. Us kilometer people can't be stuffed saying the entire word. What a long azz thing it is. So we shorten it to just saying the first letter or saying clicks - both are one syllable instead of four.

Exactly. Typing that m after the k is just such an effort. :p

Washed.
Removed the "idiot" stickers.
Started removing the decals (just the ones near the indicators so far, ran out of Eucalyptus Oil to remove the sticky residue).
Put on a tank protector.
Waxed the nose, tank & top box.

She's feeling the love today.

I have used bug & tar remover while heating up the residue with a heat gun, it worked very well.

Double checked oil and gas and wiped her down with a clean rag. Also sat on her to get use to the seat. just got her saturday so haven't needed to do much. I will go practise this weekend.

Took it apart trying to get it to start, jiggled a few connections trying to get spark, blew a fuse trying to bypass a suspect relay, tightened up a few connections and then finally got it to start on the jump pack.

I have no idea if my jiggling of connections helped, but I have spark again so it runs and everything appears to be plugged in properly.    I also killed the battery last night in the no start situation, and I was really struggling to get the battery recharged, just didn't seem to want to hold charge.  Checked the water and I could see dry plates, so refilled it with water and back on the trickle charger.  Derp.

It's been on the charger for a few hours now, while I turn the house upside down trying to find a multimeter, I know I have at least 2 somewhere.

Tomorrow I take the test to get off my learner's permit which is a full day's riding with a test at the end.  If i'm going to use this bike for my test tomorrow I want to confirm that I'm getting consistent spark, that I'm getting more than 12.5 volts with the engine running and that my battery will hold charge.  I know tomorrow is going to be a whole bunch of short little exercises and we'll be turning the bikes off in between. A motorcycle that can't be repeatedly restarted isn't going to make it through the day.  Otherwise I have to rent an expensive riding school VTR250 I've never ridden before, which isn't ideal for the test.

So anyway that's what I've done for my bike today, I've pulled it apart, got it to sort of run, and haven't really pinpointed why it didn't run in the first place.  Looking at your bike with the tank and sidecovers off with the battery on the charger isn't really where you want to be the night before your test.

picked up from 12k service... its safer for the local mechanic to do it till i learn more... new hoops too.... better globes for the headlights.. did that myself.. scrubbed the tyres in around the local 'burb then went for a semi spirited blat ... best fun in clothes i've had since xmas  :woohoo:

lovin the new pirelli sport demon rubber.. even just the little ride today... getting rid of the \_/ profile on the old rear is just so cool  O0

Cosimo_Zaretti

I bought the bike with a near new sport demon on the back, and a barely legal battleax on the front.  I got a new sport demon for the front end last week along with firming up the front forks, and damn it made a difference.  By comparison the bike became this bad voice in my head saying "tip me in, lean me harder.  They're a good tyre for this bike.

Mine goes now, and I'm getting a touch more voltage with the engine on than off, but not by much.  I don't think it'll go flat while riding but I'll keep it on the trickle charger overnight just to be safe.  According to this crappy multimeter I just bought at K mart (it's late, nothing else is open) I'm getting 12.8 engine off, and maybe 13.2 with it running at 3000 RPM.  I don't think that's enough, but after a night on the trickle charger it should get me through tomorrow's test, and I can replace the battery the day after and sort out the charging system.

Then I can try and work out why it wasn't sparking.
