I inherited some classic roadbikes when I moved into my house last year and this bike screamed "fix me, make me cool". So today I started working on it!

Raleigh Super Course MKII

So today I brought it into the garage and fixed the stock front brake which are Weinmann 610's. I pulled another lever off a donor Nishiki 4130 and routed the cable to the back. I'm looking for another Weinmann center pull because the rear brake is missing and the donor caliper is too short.

It is set up currently as a fixed gear with a freewheel.  I'm going to pull the crank and gearset from my donor and slap it on the Raleigh. Hopefully I will get this roadworthy by spring!  :woohoo:

Anyone have any info on these bikes? Are the rear calipers the same as the front?

BTW, I love that the factory color name is "Ducati Red"!

im parting out my scott waimea triathlon bike. has shimano 105 calipers on it. they work great,  got that bike up to 54.9mph, and was able to stop it using them. i cant complain about it. nehow. raleigh, ive owned several. i dislike the mavic open 4 cd wheels i have on teh scott, cause theyre 650's. NOBODY uses 650's anymore. lol

650's. I was checking out my rims (Weinmann 215 27/630 alloys). What does the 650 mean is it like the 630 stamped on my wheels? Seriously, I'm a total noob to bikes but I've learned a ton so far this weekend. What stuff would migrate over nicely to my Raleigh from your Scott?

650 is the size.....guess it was somewhere in the early 90's or so that the standard became 650cc for tri-geeks and 700cc for roadies.

Yama, those were pretty hot stuff rims in their day, still weigh in pretty light in the scheme of things I'd imagine.

Why're you parting it out instead of selling as a whole? What size?  Pics?  Send me a pm or email.

OP, got any Bianchi green Bianchi steel frame bikes laying around?

Naw, just the Raleigh, a Nishiki, an old Schwinn that I haven't looked to closely at but it has Suntour gear like the Nishiki, and a green Japanese frame that I can't remember right now that weighs about three times as much as the the others. I'll take more pics tomorrow and post.

yeah the 650 i believe was a 26" wheel, whereas teh 700 was IS a 27" wheel.

this is the bike

those wheels are LIGHT as can be. and teh bearings are some of the quietest things ive heard in ages. im just as broke as all hell, and parting it out i can do better. toward building somethign more comfy. the wheels are mavic open 4 cd, the tires are continental duraskin., the front tube is a continental race-lite. the rear is a different maker. i had a tube pop after that 55mph run. they use the presta valves. schraeder is common today, like what you have on your gs, or your automibile. teh presta is  err has an adapter that you screw onto it so you can use a traditional tire punp. ( found on higher end bikes)

I may have a presta valve on my rear tire, kinda long with a small screw that tightens at the end? (best description)

Found the other caliper in another little box of spares in the basement! Going to go pick up some new inner tubes today and see if I can score a pump somewhere. That should get me on the road with only one gear.

Took some pics of the other frames I got, I'll post as soon as I get the camera back from the misses.

I saw the word "fix" and got all sweaty and nervous. A Raleigh Super Course get the fixed-gear treatment?!  It's too classic!!! But I see what you're doing. No hipster nonsense here! :thumb:

If you want huge amounts of information, try http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php/181-Classic-amp-Vintage . This is the Classic & Vintage forum at bikeforums.net. You don't really have to post anymore, there's so much information stored in the archives.
I was big into classic roadbikes before I got my GS, and it's still a hobby of mine as long as the weather is warm enough. bikeforums.net is a great place for info and other cool stuff.

Seriously, those MKIIs are amazing. Mid 70's, unless I have my info mixed up. It just looks so CLEAN!

This is what it should look like after 35 California years, faded with rust and grime. It's my Humber Riviera. (a rebadged Raleigh Record. Not as cool as a Super Course!)

I've got a bit of Classic Steelie parts to share, but they're all for the low-end 70's bikes. Not worthy of your inheritance!

Oh, and if you decide to spend money on a pump, the $10 Walmart footpumps actually work. They'll even pump up my GS tires.

No fixies here! Different strokes for different folks, but I like classic gears! I've really wrapped myself up in all things bike since the weekend and have learned a ton from bikeforums.net, good call!

Yep, it's either a '75 or '76 and definitely clean. Has some paint chips here and there, but no rust to speak of and all the chrome and aluminum has shined up nicely with very little elbow grease. I'm keeping it as original as possible, except I don't have the original crank and derailleur. What is on yours? You can definitely tell yours is a Raleigh!

yes. ive no idea what i can realistically hope to get out of the scott. i had priced it as is for 75 but no takers. the cruiser im looking at is 89.99 ish at walmart

so id have to coem up with some boot. but in near future ill be having to go to ALOT of doctors, and  cannot legally drive anymore for time being, so a moto bike is my only option i chose a huffy cranbrook. ( quite common in teh moto community)

planning on using the proceeds from sale of the scott to purchase teh cranbrook
