I own a 2004 GS500F, Im attempting a rear wheel swap on it. I purchased a katana 600 rear wheel and the brake caliber connector that the axel fits through, the wheel didnt come with a hub drive. I figured that the hub drive from the GS500 would work considering it fits... but im having issues... I cant get the bi*ch on !!! I get the wheel centered inside the forks but the brake caliber system is cocked sideways and dosnt fit over the rotor properly... I ethir need a katana hub drive or the katana rear brake system, I dont know what the f*ck is wrong but im pissed... Can someone who has experience in this field please help me out?

SUre it's a kat wheel? Can you post pic of your problem I don't understand what you are talking about exactly.

You said you bought a wheel and "brake caliber connector that the axel fits through" which I assume is the caliper bracket.  Did you get the Kat rotor?  You didn't say and the Kat rotor has 5 bolts and the GS only 4 bolts so you need the Kat rotor with the Kat wheel.  In the Wiki job Turd said he used the Kat wheel and rotor with the GS caliper and GS caliper bracket although the Kat rotor is a bit smaller in dia than the GS rotor.  He also used the GS cush drive and sprocket hub with the Kat wheel like your doing.

I never made a GS wheel conversion, I'm happy with the 150/70 sport touring radial or bias tires on the stock GS 3.5" wheel.

Correct! I have the Katana Caliper bracket, The Katana 4.5 wheel and 5 bolt katana Rotor.  Im also using the GS Cush Drive and Caliber, However I have the katana cush pads in the wheel? Maybe if I switch the katana cush pads out with the GS Cush pads it will make a difference. I will try that tomorrow, basically what it boils down too is there is a lack of space. This lack of space between the forks is making it impossible to get the caliber and spacer in correct placement. I would take a picture but thats alot of work considering this site dosnt have a photo uploader...  :2guns:

The Kat and GS have the same cush pad numbers so that shouldn't make a difference.  Is your GS sprocket hub seated into the cush pads all the way?  On my 02 GS with 80k miles on it I still have to take a wood block against the  hub and hit it with a hammer to seat it all the way into the pads.  On previous bikes I've had the hub would be loose enough to fall in and out with that many miles on it.

One other thought, on Turd's Wiki job he used the GS caliper bracket and not the Kat one.  Just looking at the part fiche pics of them they look like they might have a different offset to them which might make the problem.  Did you try it with the GS caliper brkt?  If the offset is the same it would be desireable to use the Kat one since it would move the caliper in closer to the axle with the smaller dia rear rotor on the Kat.  If you have the torque link attached do you have enough bend in it to clear the tire if you have it on already?

I use a free Photobucket account to upload my pics so I have an online url to link them to my gstwin posts.

Hey man, Thanks for your help. I got the wheel on, I had the caliper bracket on backwards lol. The Katana caliper bracket is the same shape as the GS Caliper Bracket but its a little smaller. I used the katana because it lines the brake caliper up with the katana rotor perfectly. If you use the GS caliper bracket only half of the brake pad make contact with the rotor. I Had to grind down the left end of the spacer that fits between the caliper bracket and wheel a little bit and add a washer on the right side of the caliper bracket to get the rotor to line up in the center of the brake caliper, It was a quick easy fix. I didnt have to bend the brake arm much thank god. I layed it on two 2x4's smacked it a couple of times with a hammer in the right spot, put it back on and I had enough clearance.
