I recently had an accident on my GS500 (not my fault.) Alot of wires were clipped and It seems that the previos owner did some of his own modifications to the wiring (I sodered them back together matching what seems to go with eachother). Now my problem is that my bike will not strat up when I push the start button (I checked the starter button and looks like thiers power). I have been told that it might be my starter cilenoid or my cdi box. If i disconnect my cilenoid and cross my RED wire to my Ground wire the bike tries to turn over, but does not start because the gas tank is off. I am replacing the cilenoid, but if that doesnt do it what should I look at next? I was guessing the ignitors, but like i said it tried to crank.

The problem might not be the solenoid, could be a broken wire between it and the ignition switch, bad switch etc. Run a wire from the battery and touch it to the green/yellow wire at the solenoid. If the motor turns over, the solenoid is OK, if not its cactus. Meanwhile, when you connect the red and black wires and the motor turns over, is there a spark at the plugs?

I have taken the main harness off and looked at all or the wires. Like I said the previos owner did some of their modifications and looks like he cut some of the wires and they were never used. The wires that are trimmed (I say trimmed because they have a clean cut) are yellow and green and they look like the wires that go to the clutch. If I remember correctly the bike useto start without having to pull the clutch. I appreciate the offer, bit I dont want to go and buy things I may not need. No one can test it around here, not even a Suzuki dealer, thats frustrating. I am in north GA.

There are lots of safety switches. If the clutch switch is not shorted - it won't start. Then you've got side stand switches, etc. Study the wiring diagram. Short the clutch wires or connect to a clutch lever switch.

Yellow/Green is clutch switch. Per this diagram, you probably do not have a passing switch and older bikes only have 1 wire from the neutral switch. Otherwise, it is right. I use this diagram for my '92, '94 and 2009. The wire colors are the same.
