Hello from a new member and rider.
I just bought my first bike, after 7 years of wanting one and not being able to afford one because of school. Now if it could just stop snowing up in Ottawa (Canada), I might just be able to go ride.

My question to the community is this: do you think I paid a fair price?
2000 GS500, 26000 KM (about 16000 miles), paid 3500 CAN (about $2600 US). The bike is in great shape, new rubber, tuned-up. the only flaw is minor scratches on bar ends from being dropped in driveway.
Thanks and happy rides.

you've already bought the bike, eh?

well, if you are happy with the purchase, and happy with the bike it doesnt really matter! You'll be glad you finally satisfied that long overdue desire.  And never look back.

btw-

I should probably mention that I bought the bike from a dealer and I know that as such I probably paid a bit more than I might have if i'd have bought it privately.
Thanks

first off, Welcome fellow canadian rider  :)
it would have been better if it had less kilometers but it's a good price...
it's amazing how expensive bikes are in ontario...i was just looking at autotrader/bikes and you can't find a bike under 2500..people are selling '81 honda hawk for $2000   :bs:

ANOTHER CANUCK! Thats great to see. Im in Ottawa for 8 months of the year, so we should hit up the local roads someday.
That price was fair for a 2000. Older body style, but seems in good condition. Bikes are always more expensive in Canada. Its just the way it is when you have Monopoly money as your currency.
Congrats on the bike, you will love it!

Whe I was there in 98-99 people were tripping over each other wanting to buy the bikes... unfortunately I only had 2 (89 and 90 GS'es) at that time and selling one would have made it hard for me to get to work and back.... Now that I have 10 no one wants them.
Cool.

damn  :o you got 10 GS's? cool

well, as most of you now know, we pay A LOT for insurance in ontario...that's one of the reasons people here like our GS500, it's cheap ($1500/year  ) on insurance..

second reason is because our gas prices are also a lot more then in the US...

third reason is because the GS500 is one of the cheapest road bikes you can buy here...it's like $5500 MSRP

Hey- new member and proud owner of a 1997 gs500. Just bought her today and rode her home the 40 miles. In florida the weather is perfect and in need of utilizing. Bought the bike for $2000, with 12,000 miles new tires, chain and not a touch of rust. I feel that the bike is an excellent first bike. I had seriously been considering laying down a whole lot more for a new fz6 or sv650 but decided it would be better to stay out of debt for my first bike. Took the safety course on a nighthawk so riding the gs felt like a natural progression. All the posts and mods pages really are a great and i look forward to upgrading the bike over time. anyway $2600 seems good to me for the year.
