What are correct RPMs when using choke....

Just curious... First time I started my bike when the temp was about 45°. Full choke, started right up, but soon after the rpms started going up to  about 3500 rpm. I let the choke go back to half and it started to die. More choke & repeat above... Then I just turned off the choke and gave it a little throttle to keep it going at about 1500 rpms.
Other people say they just choke it and get their gear ready to go, then take off. Was I too worried about the rpms affect on a cold engine?

I believe the manual says to let it warm up idling with the choke at 2-3k rpms.  I usually try to run just over 2k for 15 seconds or so before I take off.  I think with full choke it stays a little too high as it starts to warm up so I just leave the choke wherever holds the rpms right until I get a few blocks and it idles right without any choke.

I think I usually shoot for about 3k if there isn't anyone around. If you live in a densely populated area I'd try to stick with something closer to 2k. If you're gonna ride away with the choke on I'd try to keep it low as well.

I start it on full choke...once it is running I keep easing the choke back to keep it around 3k...I'm not as concientious as tt_four, but I don't let it run for 10mins...usually just long enough to put my helmet and gloves on...then I pull away with the choke partially on for the first couple of miles...once I'm out of the neighbourhood I turn the choke off...light load warms the engine pretty quickly...

Later.

Why, does it smoke a lot or too loud?  :dunno_black:

Too loud I think.  I start my bike up in the little laneway behind my place, and there are apartments overlooking the lane.  The twin really reverberates off the walls in a narrow laneway, so I try to keep the revs around 2000 on startup, especially if I'm leaving at night.  The sound on startup is delicious.
