Does anyone know anything about Yamaha FZRs?

1990 FZR1000 popped up on CL for 200$. Missing plastics and tail light but otherwise complete. Doesn't run because it's been sitting. For 200$ I figure it's worth a shot to tinker with it.

I've scoured all of CL (crazedlist.org is awesome) and there is one parting out an FZR1000 with plastics. Also, I tried searching around on the first board that came up when I searched FZR and it was sorta a joke.
So what I am asking is does anyone know if other FZR plastics will fit of the same year? Anything else you can tell me about this bike? It looks pretty neat all stock

It seems 1990 was the last year of the dual front headlight.

Thanks guys!

No idea.  On a sidenote, ive never heard of crazedlist.org.  Think I'm goin to like it

Does it have a title?? There's absolutely no chance I wouldn't buy it for $200 if it has a title. Even if you don't find plastics for it, you could just make a streetfighter project out of it.

They were the "better"  liter bikes  of the late 80's /early 90's...

Peak hp at the rear wheel was in the 125-130 range in good tune ....5 speed. Handled ok for a bigger  ( 500+ pound ) bike. My brother still occasionally mentions wanting to snag one...
Will be a rocket ship compared to the Gs.
I believe it had dual headlights through all years -the glass/ shape of the headlight /upper fairing changed a little ---the 600 changed to a single in 1992 and went back to  duals in 1993 ...Perhaps the 1000 did the same thing?

Check fleabay for plastics obviously- you'll be fixing plastic and painting ...or paying a mint for  good stuff I f you find it. Could also go naked with it...

OR....
Get it running and test ride it (make sure you don't have an anchor)....part it out if you're so inclined and make a few bucks.

When the 2nd Amendment is lost, the rest will soon follow.

Torque is LBs-FT Damn it.
Yeah that was me.    One of my rides

i second the "get it even without the title" if i got it running and had to spend 300 chasing down a title i think it would be worth it, like someone said you can streetfighter it and look at the damn thing with plastics, it's freakin awesome, i've seen a couple on ebay in mint be up to like 3000 or 3500

Do a compression test.  There is a large chance that a 20-year-old FZR going for $200 is worn-out junk at this point in time.  If it has good compression then it's a maybe, if not, I say no way.  Sport bikes like this one generally don't get the cozy life most GS 500's and Harleys get.  And what would parts cost?  Oh, God, you don't even want to ask that question!

Oh, by the way, "plastics and taillight missing" means "I stunted and crashed this bike mercilessly!"
V&H pipes, K&N drop-in, seat by KnoPlace.com, 17/39 sprockets, matching grips, fenderectomy, short signals, new mirrors - 10 scariest words: "I'm here from the government and I'm here to help!"

Guy was selling for friend so he really had no idea. Said clutch might be frozen :dunno I'll look into it tomorrow and attempt at getting it running

Don't let the pics fool you, the plastics are total junk. Some spray bombed them black then blue over the course of it's life.

The FZR front rotors will work on a GS if I recall, the K&N's on the fzr 1K also fit a GS. That is a great way to do K&N's without doing lunch box, cos then you can nylon hose it easier.
Cool.

Looks like a 1987-88 model. Different swingarm and frame, different color motor, etc.

The '89-'90 got the 'Deltabox' frame and swingarm, the '91-'93 got the single headlight and inverted forks.

My first bike was an fzr 1000 same year. I loved it. Just be carefull I was dumb and ended up spending a night in jail. They are extremely fast. Fastest bike on the market in 1990... Hope you get it running. Oh and I got mine for 700 and the plastics were awfull. But thats not why we ride.lol

Garrett

Yea forgot to mention it's an 88 with a production in 87. The frame says DELTABOX on it  :dunno_black:

I dont believe calipers are the same, rotors too now that I recall, maybe they had a 1/16 inch less offset, not a problem just slap a thin washer under each bolt ... I am not sure, dont jump into it with my word. The air filters though, worth trying on the GS, I ran it for years on my old 89, matter of fact I dont think I ever went to lunch box, I cable tied them to the frame somewhere and let em roll till I sold it. The new lunch box on the bike now is my first LB. I have 1/2 a mind to yank it and go to stock airbox and paper filter. Well, let me get it working and I might just do that.
