Where do you guys look for bikes for sale?

Hey,

Although I am really happy with my bike, I do like to look and see what's for sale and for how much. I usually use craigslist and eBay with craigslist being preferred (I don't like that I put a price search in on eBay and sure a 2010 ZX-6R is $2,000 right now with 5 days left at auction... with a BIN over 9 grand, real helpful).

Know I could have done a Google search for motorcycle classifieds but curious what people have experience with. Thanks

I check ebay constantly for local stuff. When I feel like branching out my search I go to searchtempest.com which lets you browse craigslist in any mile range you want. That's how I found my current bike 5 hours away. Never really mess with ebay, although I probably should as I'm sure you can get a good deal on any local bikes that way.

I also try to keep an eye out on forums for whatever kind of bike it is. I think you usually get pretty good deals in the for sale section of a forum, assuming the bike is local enough for you to pick it up.

Craigslist has been very very good to me.

Normally I look at Craigslist, occasionally ebay and even more rarely cycletrader.

I bought Junior and Trey from CL. Good price and nice, motivated sellers. Cash in hand always a plus.
Happy with both bikes and they're happy to be part of my herd (or is it a flock, fold, school, pod, gaggle, swarm, den, harem or?)

That searchtempest.com looks pretty awesome.  Wish I would have known about it sooner.  I'm already addicted to cruising CL this certainly speeds up the process.  I've done quite a bit of buying/selling on CL and I've generally had really good luck.  The guy that sold me my bike might have been one of the nicest/most reasonable CL people I've ever dealt with.  Didn't want me to put any money down, promised to hold the bike for weeks if I needed him to before I could pick it up, had a few years of receipts for work done on the bike... Mostly common sense stuff but not everyone will do that, they just want to make a quick buck.   You do need to protect yourself cause I know there are CL horror stories out there.  But like any FSBO if your careful there are great deals to be had.

wow that site is really cool, thanks. Unfortunately my local CL sites are flooded with dirtbikes and quads, kinda wish they had their own category.

Using that site I found a 98 GS with under 10,000 miles for $1250, very reasonable to me

Use the CL filter to search for
GS500|gs500E|gs500F
The vertical bar is an OR condition.
Cuts 200 entries down to a manageable zero to 10 here in Seattle.

If I didn't have 3 of them, there's a nice 1994 for sale for $1100 which probably can be haggled down to $800 or so. I know there would be an intervention if I even hinted at getting it.
