I used this guy to get my open licence. You can either do the course in Ipswich or Toowoomba as he operate from 2 locations. He was very thorough and will explain everything to you. He only takes on a few riders at a time so there is more one on one time and he loves GS500s.

Tony's Rider Training

47 Blackstone Road,  Eastern Heights
or
30 Barrymount Cres, Toowoomba

Ph- 0437 724 665
--------------------------------------------
You being located at Minden could go to either as you are about halfway between the two.

Oh and welcome to the forums.  :thumb:

Thanks for the contact -- do you know if he has his own bikes to use as mine is not ready

Yes he has his own bikes and gear.

mister

Rocklea was flooded - BUT - they are back in action.

At Rocklea they take you out back to their training area http://www.nearmap.com/?ll=-27.559693,153.005803&z=21&t=h&nmd=20110114 (this is a Sat shot of the area) where you'll do figure 8, slalom, emergency stop, emergency avoidance, slow riding then do it all on a road ride. They will Not have you go on a road ride Until you can do all the stuff in a training area. And if you don't drop the bike on the road ride you'll get the endorsement. They have their own bikes and you could be with as few as two others and as many as seven others. I think they charge somewhere near $300  :o

The Ipswich based guy will have his own bikes. Call him and have a chat, I think you'll find he is better value than Pro  :thumb:

Those are the two closest. There is also HART based down in Springwood - but why go there when the others are closer.

Before you ride, watch these free videos http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/safety/publications/2005/ride_on_video.aspx and grab yourself a copy of the accompanying free booklet and go over it http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/safety/publications/2005/Ride_on.aspx

Hi Tim from Ipswich, 03 gs with a Ventura rack. Gs is my first bike so far im loving it, I've been up through the mountains a couple times and I mainly have the bike as a commuter. I've just put led indicators on and have discovered the usual problem so anyone that can point the best places to get a diode and an electronic flasher in brisbane/ipswich would be appreciated. And I've just had the experience of changing out my swingarm bearings I ended up having to weld them to shrink them out, they were that tight, anyone else had that problem? Anyway it's great to have found the Aussie section.
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

Twisted

Heya Tim. One of 2 other Ippy GS riders here. Mister is the other one. Post up some pics of the bike and we might be able to organise a ride sometime if you are keen?

LED turn signals are a bit more involved than just installing the indicators. Try this link -

Aussie-gs, I went through rocklea about a month and a half ago and a group of 5 of us got through in one day, I did ring Tony 's but his prices were a bit exxy. If you pay ahead at rocklea you get 10% off the usual price which sold me. And yeah sure keen for a ride anytime just gotta tee it up, and approve it with my manager of finance and recreation. :)

Try Autobarn or Super Cheap but if that fails eBay sells them.

Yeah it's all sorted now ended up making my own diode Y piece and putting it across my indicator light and using my original flasher unit. Cheers for the links they helped the most.

So when's the next group ride?

How far do you want to go - in terms of distance for the ride?
How long are you willing to be away while on the ride?

All my rides leave at 8am, have a smoko (9-ish) and lunch (12-ish) stop and then ride home after lunch (1-ish) to be home anywhere from around 2:30 to 4:30/5:00 depending on the route.

Last Sunday (3rd) I did from home back to home, 485km. Departed meeting point at 8am and got home a tad after 4pm. This was the route http://goo.gl/maps/IvrP

Hmmm... think I'll make a post with a whole bunch of ride routes...

Hmmm... yep, I reckon this would be ideal... http://tinyurl.com/47nm9tm - could even throw in a quick nip up and back on the Mt Lindesay twisties towards NSW border - only 20 clicks from Rathdowney to the border. Or skip em and do the rest. Each leg is roughly an hour long. Roughly.

Or the Dam loop with a quick blat up Esk Hampton http://tinyurl.com/63mmn8t - yeah, this is a funner one than above (above is nice and interesting with good scenery) (Kilcoy, fuel if you need [don't need on a GS] and pie from bakery, then set off again.)  :thumb:
