I was curious do you need to remove the fairings on the later f models to
change the plugs? I searched but didn't find much.

Depends on your skill level and available tools.
Why not remove them? Takes less than 5 minutes to remove the lower fairings - half a dozen screws, a couple plastic clips and they're off. Then you can check out more of your bike at the same time. You don't have to remove the upper fairing.

I'm definitely capable. Just never tried before and don't want to break anything lol

I was referring to removing plugs with the fairings on.
Take them off. Then you can clean the inside, clean the engine better, check over everything, change the oil at the same time, look for pinched wires, and all sorts of other things.
Remember where the screws come out as they have different shoulder lengths. The plastic plugs on the bottom of the fairing pop open with a thin flat screw driver. You re-use them.
Have fun!
While you're at it, buy the R&G frame sliders someone was selling and put those on. You have to drill holes in the fairings to do it but they are worth it! You'll see if your bike falls over. Suzi has them. They look good!
