HELP with my GS

i came to my cousins house to pickup my bike and take it home

first it didn't want to start and then when i got it started it ran like shaZam!...rpm's were jumping up and down and i coulnd't ride it...i took apart the carbs and took one washer out from each carb...so now i have 1 washer under each needle...i checked all ruber and it looks good...while i had the carbs out i set the air/mix screew to 3 turns out (AGAIN)

now the bike runs OK but it accelerates like it has 10 horsepower
it idles good and when i give it gas it has a hard time geting up

so basicly i have a problem reving the engine....when the bike is still and not in gear, and when i twist the throttle it takes a long time to get to about 7000 rpm....when i ride it , it takes even longer

please help me with this

My first guess is water in the gas... other possibilities are... vacuum leak, water in the electricals... heck make that the first option.

the one on the top of the picture is the left cylinder plug....the one on the bottom is the right cylinder plug

what can i do now?

OK what did they look like when the bike was fine... looking at it... sucking air in the right cyl is my first choice now.

the were both dark

could this be because the mix screws aren't set right
the bike feels like it's miss fireing

Check the vacuum caps and inspect the manifold boot for cracks.

i already checked the boot that holds the carbs...it's good

which caps do you mean?

looks like it firing on one cylinder. check both sides for spark. It's a quick process and will eliminate one possibility.

i didn't check because the engine sounded like it was runing on both but i'll check tommorow....

basicly, the bike runs ok now...it starts and idles good but has NO power....while i was riding, i couldn't keep up to cars that are slow

did you get the idea that it's runing on one cylinder because of the spark plug picture i put up or?

Yes, and the fact that you said it will run but has no power and takes a long time to rev up to 7000. Was the plug (clean one) wet when you pulled it? If it was dry then it's definitly not getting gas. If it was wet but white then it's not getting spark.

no it wasn't wet...the pic was taken 5 minutes after a ride and 30 after i took the plugs out...i didn't clean them, just pulled them out and took a picture

it makes sense that it's fireing on one cylinder because i feels like i has 1/2 the power but the plugs were exactly the same way they were on the pic when i took them out

which caps do you mean?

Vacuum caps on the top of each carb, and the vacuum ports on the side of each carb body. One  has a hose connected to the vacuum port of the petcock, the other should be capped.

i found the problem but couldn't fix it...

the left cylinder is not geting any spark from the spark plug...i swiched the wire and spark plug from the right cylinder and it still doesn't work so it means that the left coil isn't working...right?

if so, where can i get a coil for my '92? could i use one from a lawnmower (don't laugh hehe)?

Did you swap the coils and start it or just move the right coil over and leave off the left coil? If you swapped coils and the left coil sparked the sparkplug in the right cylinder, it should be fine, in which case, it might be the sending unit.

Definitly try to swap coils like mentioned above. If the problem follows the coil, then it's the coil. If the problem is still with the same cylinder after the swap, then it's the pick-up sensors under the rt. side small cover. You didn't happen to do a DIY ign. advancement did you?

no, i didn't do the DIY advance...

i'll switch the coils and see what happens
