I did a real dumb thing and slightly pulled my bike behind my wifes car in the garage. That being said, when she backed out ka-bamb!! It got knocked over and bent the handle bars, busted mirror and a few light scuffs but thats it.

I was not home at the time and so she left it there like wounded deer because she couldn't pick it up. It was laying on it's side for maybe 2 hours. I ran home and picked it up and let it sit for about 5 hours. It started right up but I noticed the oil light is staying on. I didn't let it run for more than 30 seconds or so then started it up again and the same thing. Light stays on.

Any idea's as to why this is happening? Should I let it run longer and see what happens? :dunno_black:

Any help appreciated, thanks!!

When this happened to my bike I had to let it run for something like 30 to 60 seconds before the oil light went off. Its like when you change the oil, it takes a few seconds for oil to get routed to everything again. You could disconnect the plugs or somehow else disable the engine, then turn it over with the starter button for a bit. Use 10 second bursts to avoid overheating your starter. Should put it on a battery charger after doing this also.

Or just let it run for a minute.

Ok, thanks. I'll let it run for a bit longer and see what happens. I'm hoping that's it. Just kinda freaked me out! I'm so bummed for not moving it

Thanks!

CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL.

Don't keep running it-make sure your oil level is ok.

When the 2nd Amendment is lost, the rest will soon follow.

Check your oil.  :thumb: :thumb:

Check your wife's eyes  :flipoff: :icon_mrgreen: cause I'd be stuffed if I know how you cannot see a bike behind a car when you go to get in it, even if you approach it from the front.

When your bike went over (bet it was the LH side) the oil will have drained out of the gallery behind the pressure switch. When you lifted it up the oil will have flowed back in BUT.....it will have have trapped a bubble of air behind the switch. Its this bubble that is stopping the switch from triggering, you need to remove the switch and let it bleed for a few secs until oil flows out.

Yes it was the left hand side. Lucky I had the bars turned towards the left. It kinda took the hit!

Where would this switch be? Is it easy to get at?

Thanks!

Where would the oil go? Would it be hiding somewhere after a tip over?  ;)

The oil is still in there, it just drained out of the filter, etc. Need to turn the engine over a bit to restore oil pressure, just like after an oil change.

Still, always a good idea to double check the oil level I guess.

Look on the RH side of the engine, find the small circular cover and remove it. You will see what looks like a plug with a green/yellow wire connected to it, this is the oil pressue switch. Undo the wire and remove the plug, wait until oil flows out of the hole then just refit and reconnect  :thumb:
