Just replaced the stator crank case cover gasket yesterday due to some oil leak.  Found that the magnets on the rotor were missing 10-15% of the epoxy and it looked like each magnet is split.  Ill take it back apart and snap some pics at some point. I don't really hear any noises and my battery seems to stay charged.

Here is the deal, I paid $1000 for the bike and have dumped $300 in misc parts- gaskets, battery oil changes, carb jets, gas lines.

It still needs tires, a clutch cable and the valve clearances checked.

Can just drive it, I don't really wanna put alot of money in the thing cause its my starter bike and Ive put about 1000 miles on it so far. I can get a new rotor for around $250 shipped but with tires thats close to doubling my original investment.

Any thoughts, ideas or opinions?

Thx

Meant to add that atleast one of the magnets were loose and I could move it by hand. The stator looked ok though not beat up or anything.

I haven't seen the innards you are referring to, but how about using J.B. Weld to keep the magnets in place?

I've used JB Weld to glue a magnet inside the crankcase of a V6 car engine and it held up fine.

And I have no idea what you are referring to by "goats" in the subject line. If you change it to something more relevant you might get more responses.

"Goats" is relevant to what he's saying.

You've come this far already, you might as well finish it. AT least then you'll know what you have into it. Your only other option is to sell it. Do you think you can get out of it the money you have put into it?

As gas prices go up, you will want something that is good on gas and you already have it. Like I mentioned before, you know what has been done, you know what you have into it, and you know what still needs to be done. Sell it and you may buy someone elses headache and have to start all over again.

I read about "goats" on this forum. I think the basic idea is fix it, flush it (oil and filter), flush it again, hope for the best.
In your case, you might want to run it without the stator while you clean it with oil (just to see if it's good first). Just run it off a battery charger.
I dunno. I just read about it a little bit. Bump one of those threads. ?
