That was the guy I was telling you about, I believe, but I dont remember his name as Rob. Anyway its the same bike tha twas crashed in front and then hacked in the back.

The side ways licence plate off the axle ... screams "Ooooooh damn I forgot what to do with the licence plate. Oh well, this looks as good a place as any other"
The piece of flat bar holding up the rear fender screams ... "oh oh my fender is tearing up the tire, what can I do ... what can I do, OK we'll hammer this bar here and weld it up and make it hold up the fender and lets slap the other end under the rear axle bolt as well".

I love this "Is a real head turner" people turn to also look at the fugly a$$ freaks. That is what people dont realise. Worse yet, people are polite, you have obviously spent many 100 hours on it and it takes a real sadist (or someone who lacks any social sense like me) to tell you, "man that thing looks like a piece of trash" so they just say nice bike and keep walking.

Anyway I know this fool had close to 1500 bucks in it + whatever cutting and welding and hammering cost, so for his lousy taste you pay a 2K premium.

Thats actually a fairly standard place to put the license plate. Not a bad looking location either.

Oh yea ... oh yea ... why you little ...

OK just those handle bars are worth beating the fool to pulp with. Look ... left and right dont need to be connected ... the bars are free pivoting ... whooo whooo ... who needs to hit the brakes ... this is a bobber ... people get out of the way ... just after they turn heads ... moron.

That bike Has more fugly garbage than you can shake a stick @.

The body plastic (side covers and tail and rear fender) on a shadow covers up all the ugly crap like the fuel pump and the electricals as well as the battery. If that trash was meant to hang out in the air, well, why does anyone even make side covers.

BTW That tank came to the guy in a nice beautiful red. Flawless paint on it.The side covers/tail section were green and lightly scratched up.
A sane person would have painted the body red or bought a green tank ... they made a great green and white a few years in the 90's on a vlx600.
This fool removed the body and painted the tank flat black ...

Under the seat - you see all the black bits and pieces - OK let me tell you what all is in there. Battery, fuel lines, each about the size of a dime OD, fuel pump which thankfully is mostly black, a bunch of electrical junk, like starter relay, T/S relay, headlight, side stand and what not relays/interlocks ... and yes the bike has no T/S'es, however the fool doesn't know to remove the relay.

Its a lot uglier in person and its a lot uglier to someone who has owned and worked on a shadow. That $7 harbor freoght trailer fender ... looks like sheite. Even my trailer wont have a trailer fender.

Its fairly standard after some fool forgot to fit it on his custom bike and then slapped it wherever it fit. Yesterday's bad idea is today's trend huh.

I remember seeing it in the late 90's and I really hoped to god the thing was just on there temporarily till he got home and fit it on properly.

Personally I'm going to say I don't like it. Seems like he started off with good intentions on the front half of the bike and then just ran out of money. My opinion of course. To each their own.

One of the basic tenets of building a bobber, is that you're too stupid to see what a POS it is and assume the whole freaking world needs to read it every day. I am not against bobbers in general, but a bobber that looks like it was spit up by a crusher and you want a 200% profit - that = stupid.

BTW this bike was nearly the perfect candidate for a cheater chopper. Machine up triples with a 6-13 degree rake, fit a set of looooooooong forks - I like older dirt bike forks, but HD and other forks are a possiblity too, and leave the rear end as it was. It was a whopping 24 inch ride height if that, lowering it to 18 inch and losing suspension travel will beat your a$$ up and nothing else. of course machinig up triples with angles and c-c distances etc require calculations and you need to be dealing with sine and cos of various angles and distances and then have someone machine it ... man my head hurts.

Same thing with electrical modifications.
Same thing with carburetion.
Same thing with anything that requires thought, or research or reading.

See its like this and it has been lifted from someone's sig line on an audio site.
5% think.
10% think they think.
And 85% would rather die than think.

Every one is building a bobber, and all of them are from the last 85% of the population.

I know we should sympathise with the disabled, but I also think we should laugh at the stupid ... or is lack of any logical thought also considered a disability -

I am selling my 1978 Honda cb750 Honda matic. It is a two speed NO clutch. Very rare. It is super clean. It could also be considered a rat bike, cafe racer, bobber or even a chopper. I just put on a new 530 hd oring chain. Carbs have just been fully rebuilt. Has brand new front tire. It is a hardtail that has been bobbed. All of the stock parts that have been removed are in a box. You could sell them for 1500. The speedometer drive cable is broken. The carb need to be fine tuned. There is a small leak coming from #4 carb. Float possibly needs adjusted. I had a fractured vertebrae and thought I would be ok riding the hardtail. But on a 30 minute ride I was done. My friend rode it and he was fine. This is a very cool bike and I wish I could keep it. My loss is your gain.

So its been hacked and welded, put back together, but needs to be taken apart ... and he has a fractured vertebrae and thought he'd be OK with a hardtail. The way that sentence is worded it looks like he built the hardtail knowing he had a fractured back ... so my question is ... has he ever ridden anything ... ever. cos even with a fully finctioning suspension these things hammer your butt.
And yea you can sell the crap he's pulled off the bike for 1500. Well everyone is building a bobber, so a stock tail section you have hacked off the bike yes pal, its worth 1500.

Guys please post competing moron's in your hood guys, or I am beginign to think I am living in the dumbest place on earth. BTW - that is atleast partly true, I see more stretched and slammed sport bikes here than I did anywhere else I have been to/lived in. Even in NY/NJ I saw almost none.

Pff. Wah. Quick search for "bobber" in the local ads turned this up. A DOHC CB750K w/ hardtail. He's "losing money" selling it for $3000. At least he started with the least desireable of the DOHC bikes...

http://miami.craigslist.org/brw/mcy/2338603081.html

For less than that, I could buy a unmolested and much newer bike... like an older Shadow.

There are literally dozens of these bikes for sale on CL. IMHO this is an acceptable route for a bike that's too far gone for a proper resto, but selling one would be a chore. And I've never understood the rationale for locking out a perfectly good suspension.

Buddha, not only is this guy stupid but he's a liar too.  $1500 for a box of parts stripped from a Hondamatic?  What can be in that box that's so valueable?  An pound of killer weed?  Not the engine, carbs, wheels, tank, frame, or forks.  He used them all and that's where the money is!  Also he says it's super clean but then says it can be considered a rat bike!  :cookoo:  He obviously doesn't know what a rat bike is, a P.O.S... HIS BIKE!  :thumb:

As for choppers and bobbers in general, it depends on who makes them.  My friend Brian has been buying, chopping, bobbing, and selling XS650's for the last two years, 27 bikes so far. (Yeah, you could say he's high-energy!)  His bikes are absolutely gorgeous as he pays attention to every detail and he is a 30-year master of metalwork.  Everything is glass bead blasted, polished, or neatly re-painted prior to re-assembly.  Not a single wire shows.  It's all neatly tucked-into a handmade metal box or cylinder, depending on the customer.  They look like they were originally made that way.  He does them with a neat, minimalist, economical focus, and they are way-cool.  People gladly pay him three grand and up for one and they call him for months thanking him.  Every time he parks his bike everyone ignores the Harleys and gathers around his "shiiity old Yamaha".  His bobber is the best looking low-buck chopper I've ever seen.  He let me ride it and it was a pleasant experience.  When you strip-off all the crap that 50 HP motor does fine!  I posted a pic of him sitting on his bike sometime last year.  It's on this website somewhere.  If you search for "Brian" it will probably show-up.  I will have a handmade Briancycle before too long, I can smell it!  :woohoo:

I am hoping to implement one of these 1/2 decent hack jobs ... I am not even against ugly rat bikes, I am just against crap that someone welded up haphazardly and needless to say, some of them have been painted over beautifully ... but you see 1/2 the electricals and other ugly bits - like the battery in a tray just in front of the back wheel on the bottom - that just reeks of lack of thought.

My goal is to build a GR based flat tracker ... using mostly stock parts. They just will be stock out of 100 different bikes.
So far - buell blast tank - fits it like it was made for it, a buell blast swingarm - hacking and welding needed and has the potential to look fugly, and a DR250 swingarm. I would probably fit the GR laced aluminum wheels on it, maybe run a kat FE or a GS FE even, and see if an offset fork brace will let me run a front fender which of course will be a GS or a kat. I dont know that it would look like its been hacked up ... that remains to be seen.

Also an XS is a good platform to start on, but it makes a far better cafe or a flat tracker than a chopper or bobber.
In a way the less you do the better IMHO, see an xs already has the profile to be a cafe or a flat tracker. A bobber IMHO the bike that was made to be bobbed is a savage. Cos its frame ends @ the a$$ of the rider. The entire section behind that is mounted on that heavy monster of a fender. Remove the fender and instant bobber. Yes you still ahve to deal with the electrics - 5 wires run to the T/S and tail light - and the R/R - on my "bobber" I shallow drilled the spot welds in that fender and removed all the thick pieces, then shaved the thing into a nice profile, fitted a tombstone style - limp D1ck tail light and ran the wires under the fender and to the T/L and T/S. Licence plate went on that tail light. Nothing was left like it was cobbled up. The best part was the R/R - into the airbox it fits perfect, is in a lot of air and I ran it that way for over a year ... fantastic.

I also chopped that bike - by making angled triples and runnign a dirt bike FE.

I know him, he tried to sell the stock XS he had for 2G, and when it didn't sell he built that. I was telling him ~2-3 years ago to be patient and nothing was selling and when the economy was better it would sell. Anyway his xs used to be a mint bike. I started of with a rat, which got worse with time.

I know that guy as well, its at a car repair shop. And he's been trying to sell it for 5 years. Its been for sale for longer than my welders 2 marriages put together, who lives down the street from that shop.

And he also had a Bandit 1200 there, dunno if it sold.

Y'know, there was a .com bubble, then a housing bubble right, I think now there is a bobber bubble.
