Hi all,

If anyone is interested in fixing up or parting out an 89, this looks like it has potential:

Not mine - just sharing since it still has the original clip ons, which are worth $100 right there...

scratch

Went and looked at this yesterday.

The fuel tank is in really great condition!

Motor turns over by hand with the expected compression resistance with the spark plugs in, but I could not hear the hissing sound of compression leaking past the valves due to neighboorhood traffic.

Turns over smoothly with no stops with the spark plugs out.

Needs:
Carbs cleaned
New battery (the old one may only need fluid and recharging, though)
Fork seals, fork oil, dust seals, retaining circlips
Front brake pads (old ones are contaminated with fork oil)
Flush the front and rear brake fluids
New airfilter
New chain and sprockets
Engine oil and filter changed

Has both original mirrors

The left fork leg has rust spots in the travel area.

Exhaust headers are severly rusted, but the muffler is in very good shape; no crash damage.

Pirelli Demons are in very good shape, hold air, and don't look like they have any cracking at all for a bike that has been stored out side for a year.  Definitely rideable.

Seat leaked water, and had green moss growing out of the very small hole (1/8") on one of the front corners.

I opted not to buy this because I would feel compelled to buy a new set of fork tubes, since rusty ones will eat fork seals every few months.

Kelly Bluebook trade-in value: $730
KBB retail: $1180

He's asking $600, I would say in running condion this bike would not be worth $730, so he's priced it about right with the exception of the fork legs.  I would have offered $200, but that would be insulting as he seemed a nice guy, and I don't need the bike.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Just wait till he starts dropping the $ ... wait till it gets to 250 then offer 200.
Cool.
