After removal of my rear sprocket due to wear I thought I should inspect and or replace the front sprocket as well to keep the driveline fresh. Well that was a bad idea I removed the front sprocket cover only to find that the gearbox driveshaft has damaged splines where the sprocket mounts to . So after drowning my sadness in beer I decided to remove the engine for repair to the gearbox . What has turned from just fix the front forks and give Her a fresh coat of paint has turned into a complete rebuild.
Has anyone ever came across this and has anyone got transmission parts ,so I can replace the shaft.
My bike is a 91 gs500e

Same thing happened to my friends GS450 except he bought the bike with a welded front sprocket. Required tearing down 2 engines and putting a good output shaft in his motor. May be easier to look for a good engine to drop in instead of splitting the cases.

Bummed for ya man.

Are all the gs output/driveshafts the same?

Big Rich

Not quite sure. Find the part number on www.bikebandit.com or somewhere and cross reference it. Basically, copy the # and paste it into their search bar. Then you will see a button that says "fits machines" or something. Click on that and it will show every bike that used that part.

All the same based on the ones I've seen. Most of the changes (barely any at that.. and none of it major) have been to the engine or emission system.

Stripped my motor /transmission down today found I have goats ( rotor magnets broken ) and gone through motor also found front balancer shaft bearing damaged as well . Rest of motor not to bad bores are still good ,head and valves should be done while it is apart . It will be a new bike by the time I am done .
Tank and fairings at painters and wheels at powdercoaters .

This is bad I'm debating stripping my bike and painting it and having the frame powdercoated.
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

Do it.When you are done, you will have a reconditioned bike that should last as long as a new one. After this, you know you'll keep the maintenance up.Apparently the PO didn't.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

Anyone got a good rotor and balance shaft  :icon_question:

There was a rotor listed in the for sale section.May wanna drop a WTB for the balance shaft.I didn't think those were all that expensive?

The shaft new isn't all that expensive for what it is($173).For less than that, you could get a motorcycle machine shop to balance your crankshaft with the rotor, rods, and pistons and eliminate the balance shaft.

The shaft is not the worry more concerned about the rotor
