have a weird noise coming directly from the calve cover. at about :29 you can hear it the clearest. weird how it cycles and does it about every 5 seconds. bike seems to ride fine just has a little flat spot at half throttle.
any help is GREATLY appreciated;)

It sounds like it maybe some kind of cam noise.

madjak30

I would go with cam end play...I'm pretty sure Suzuki has a kit for that exact problem...if not lots of bike have had it...it's more annoying than damaging, but check at the dealer about an cam end play kit...if it was you valves the noise would be constant (might not show up at certain rpm, but wouldn't come and go like that)

Good Luck!!

Later.

That my friend is cam float end play noise. Is the bike hot when it does it or does it do it from cold? My bike will make that noise when I pull up after a longish run and come to a halt at an intersection or something similar. A little rev gets rid of the noise. It is not damaging to the engine. Make sure you are using the correct grade of oil (10-40w) in your bike as I know my noise gets more frequent when I used 20-40w for one service. Also check your oil level with the bike turned off and on the centre stand, unscrew the dip stick, wipe it, put it back in without screwing it back in, just let it rest on the threads and check it again to get a correct oil level.

If the noise is coming from the top end,it is the cam shaft end play.If it's coming from the bottom end,it is a bad rod bearing.

thanks alot guys.im using 10w-40 regular oil and its is coming from the valve cover. how do i know if its cam "float"? and what does the kit consist of?    and its when the bike is completely warmed up that it does it.
thanks alot guys though for at least posting ideas.

i hope there is a fix for me. how can i trust a bike that makes that noise lol and is there any way to fix it on the older heads since their for the later heads? arent they all identical besides the oil cooler on the newer ones?

My '89 has made that noise since day one and hasn't blown up yet   :thumb:

maybe the cam chain tensioner isnt working properly? cam chain loose possibly?

gs500e

I would use the old screwdriver stethoscope method to try and pin point where the noise is coming from.
I keep forgetting to turn the petcock on before i bolt down gas tank. :(
