Don't feel like riding this year....

Still in the process of getting my bike back together. Now that I look back on all the parts I needed for the bike to just start even, used parts have added up and now I'm wondering if my GS is even worth riding anymore. I'm a bachelor living in a basement apartment with nowhere to put my bike but outside under a cover. It's not very ideal, but I'm a long way of owning a house of my own. Anyone else have riding blues? Haha should I even call it that, maybe I'm just crazy. I love riding but I'm caught between a situation where it's cost me a lot to fix a bike that isn't worth that much, but not enough to afford another bike. Even after I get the mechanical parts together, I need a new helmet, and a new rear tire. I think the bike isn't going to be ready this summer. I have so many other things I need to put cash into. Like moving across the country, maybe.

Don't think I'll be riding this year.

Man, I hear ya. I sent a good friend of mine parts in exchange for labor........the labor is done but the work is still down in Alabama. I'm ready to ebay the original parts since it's stopping 2 bikes from running. Last spring my neighbor broke the crap out of his thumb so I cut his grass all summer for free. To "pay me back" he agreed to paint a tank and a fiberglass seat for me but has had them for 2 months. Heck, I can sit them on a shelf for 2 months, I don't need his help.

It's opener there in the wide open air...

I haven't rode my bike in fear of being in an accident.  I leave for basic training in August and I know if I were to ride something stupid would happen.  I don't want to throw away a potential Air Force career for a few more months of riding.  I'll just get another bike after I'm finished with all my training.

I don't have anything in terms of future plans at the moment, but I don't think I can sink any more dough into the bike for this year anyway.

I'm getting back to it after a year of missing out. Accident and dead bikes were the main reason ... but still it feels good to be back to it.

I go through periods with riding my KTM300EXC 2 smoke, some years/seasons I'll be totally stoked to go shred the woods with my buds, other years, especially this year when I have multiple projects going on, money issues, and aches and pains I am less apt to jones to go hit the dirt for that lovely Brap Brap Brap.....I doubt I'll ride this year, helll I haven't even gotten it out of storage at my brothers house....

With thinking like that, putting the mockers on yourself, you should never get on a bike again. Sell your bike and look for other hobbies - only thing to do as it's now obvious you aren't really gonna melt it down and eat it bit by bit.  :thumb:

Not sure what you mean by this?

I don't question my riding ability at all.  I have full faith in myself.  It's the idiots around me that scare me.  My state was just ranked 48 out of 50 states for the worst drivers in the USA.  I've been in two accidents and have been lucky enough to walk away from both.  Neither have been my fault.

Also, if you read my full statement, then you would see that I plan on riding again, but I want to wait until after my training.

If you feel that strongely about knowing something stupid will happen and you will crash you should not be anywhere near your bike..sell it.. You live to ride and ride to live that's the motto..

If you don't have faith in being able to do this sport safely and you do happen to value your life which you clearly do.. Then maybe it is not for you..
I believe that's what he meant

Edit: also I don't mean to come across as a bit of a prick but isn't 48th out of 50 really good when comparing worst drivers

yamahonkawazuki

so basically ver4 you are for lack of a better term. either afraid or apprehensive of riding. because something might happen and jeopardise your military career/aspirations? do i have that part right? i can respect that wholeheartedly. do what you feel is right. but hang around ehre at least. or if you can touch bases while on post. feel free to do so

Ugh....how many times do I need to repeat myself? I am not afraid of riding. You can ask other members on this forum about that since I've ridden with quite a few people on this board. I've been in accidents and rode home after them with no problems (no nervousness, etc.). Like yama said, I am not trying to screw up my chance of being in the AF for three more months of riding. I have my whole life to get back on a bike. I do not feel it would be in my best interest to ride right now.

And, CptAwesome, you are wrong. I guess I should have phrased the statistic better. I live in the 3rd worst state for drivers.

Thank you for clarifying.

When you said, "I haven't rode my bike in fear of being in an accident." that can only be taken as you having a fear of getting on the bike. Can you see how we thought this?

When you said, "I know if I were to ride something stupid would happen" that is putting the mockers on yourself. Call it jinxing yourself if you like. Where your Negative Talk leads to fulfillment of the talk.

What I mean was exactly what I said, with what was thought to be a fear of riding combined with such negative self talk, it is unwise to ride a motorcycle.

However, you have now clarified it for us all.

Still waiting for the meal to begin  :thumb :flipoff:

Too early to understand or read all of the OP replies, but I will say you need to be fully confident, ride very agressive, and I would assume worrying or focusing on accident rates too much, would be counter productive.

Ride if you want,, don't ride if you don't want to, if you do ride, be confident and ride defensively.

Like Fry said- you can't ride if you're constantly worrying about accidents.  Ver4, with the type of luck you usually run into, it's probably wise you're choosing to cage it out until you get your foot in the door.  If you're not able to than your contract is  void, right?   I know your commute takes you on I-695 every day...and don't we all love the drivers there, hmmm?

Maybe rock_rebel could help out Ver4 while he's in training, and just ride the bike to keep it in shape...?   :dunno_black:

Don't get me wrong, I usually think about accidents as well, but moreso in the manner when I'm scanning way infront of me on the highways looking for the moron who has the potential to hit me, I'm always think how the situation where I'm at can turn ugly and where I am going to go if it does. Its better to see the "Texter" or Jeff Gordon in the making, before they decided to take you out. But as a whole I try to enjoy the ride...

Anyone else have riding blues? Haha should I even call it that, maybe I'm just crazy. Don't think I'll be riding this year.

I don't feel like riding this year.  Just can't get my head around four dollars a gallon >:(

Today I took a ride around the block on my other bike.  My Walmart mountain bike.  Dual suspension.  Eighteen speeds.  Eighty-eight dollars :woohoo:

Cheap entertainment, like the GSTwin in the olden days.  But then I come upon our brand new Honda-Kawasaki-Suzuki dealership.  Lotsa glass and I peek inside and spy the latest GSXR600 in white and it's gorgeous!  The preseason photos did-not-do-it-justice!  So muscular--like a wild animal.  Not like a hurricane....or a ninja--not like a lithe martial artist...not like a machine.  An animal...and a predator.

I still don't feel like riding....$4 a gallon....racer crouch....but I want one.  Just to park it in the living room and admire it all summer.  Same thing I felt about Shannen Doherty back in her day.  Same thing.  Coulda been happy just to look.  Take her for a spin and it's gonna cost ya, and besides, she might get dirty.  And not in the good way.

Yeah, I'm just pedaling around on my $88 Walmart special with a self-satisfied look on my face--almost as bad as the Celebrex man....a body in motion....struttin' along the beach playing frisbee with the dog....unzipped sweat jacket blowing in the wind--Hey, look at me!  No middle-aged spread!  Just buy my arthritis pill....  But that's the Celebrex life.  Time is money for the working man....so much guilt and so little time....

Beachfront home or Gixxer600....beachfront home or Gixxer600....beachfront home or Gixxer600...beachfront home or Gixxer600....

mister

$4 a gallon got you down?

Come to Australia where it's OVER $6 a gallon.  And what sucks extra bad is, we have our own oil rigs pumping the stuff out and we export our oil to 40 countries.
