Well, that didn't go as planned

I had a pile of things to do on my bike today. It didn't go so well. Basically I got the first thing done (install frame sliders), then everything went to downhill.

I was putting new EBC HH pads on the front and the one of the piston seals stuck and is partially sticking out. No problem, I have a parts bike, so I went to steal it's front caliper and the PO had used different bolts to hold it on, I got the lower bolt off, but the upper is almost touching the fork. I don't have much in the way of tools, so I had to take the metro into work (thankfully only one stop away) to get a 17mm wrench. I got back and I tried everything to get it off, but I just can't get enough grip.

So I figured I would just try to use the old caliper until I can get a rebuild kit on Monday. Went ahead and decided I would keep going on the list of things to do and drained the brake fluid in the front so I could swap in the HEL braided lines I picked up. Got that done, bolted the new line to the master cylinder just fine, then went to bolt on the HEL line to the front caliper and the bolt is not the right size. I tried all four in the kit and none of them fit. Took a closer look at the factory bolts and the caliper bolt is smaller than the master cylinder. Now I am not sure if HEL messed up or the vendor, but either way I am out of commission...or am I?

I have always read that you are not suppose to re-use the bolt's on brake lines, is that true?

I am going to see if the local cycle shop parts department has the caliper rebuild kit, and the bolt in stock, if they do, I will try to get it fixed tomorrow. Then maybe I will try the rear line and the rest of the stuff on the list.

Eh, I clean them and reuse the bolts all the time.

The crush washers are supposed to be replaced, but the HEL kit will have those.

I didn't receive the right bolts or any crush washers with my front line. I just reused the old ones without issues. U can email them and they will send u the right items that u can keep for spares.

I ended up getting the part's bike caliper off by using a BAS[tm] and prying the bottom of the caliper over a bit, which broke the upper bolt lose :D

Then I used the old caliper bolt for the HEL lines. So now my bike is functional and the front brakes are a HUGE improvement  :thumb:

This weekend I will do the back line and may tackle the R6 shock.

BAS[tm] = Big Ass Screwdriver

Be careful using the rear brake after you replace the rear line with stainless steel unit.I changed mine to SS and used Galfer HH pads and just my toe laying on the pedal will lock the rear brake.It happens way faster than you think it will.
