Plan to take mine out and totally clean everything needed and replace the parts with these http://www.oldbikebarn.com/Suzuki-GS500-GSX1000-Carb-Repair-Kit?sc=12&category=73881

Going to wait on the manual I sent $ out for from someone off here, also gotta wait on the repair kit too.

But just want to know what specific tools and items needed to go through this.
So I have everything all ready when the manual and repair kit arrive.

I have the basics, wrench's, sockets, all different size flat head and phillips screwdrivers, allen wrenches, Carb cleaner.

Only item I know I need that I am missing is a can of compressed air. (no air compressor here)

Already have 2 walkthrough's bookmarked but none I found ever had a simple list of tools.

Just not in the mood to be halfway through it and be missing a needed tool.

Thanks

All you really need are the basics.  12mm Wrench to remove the tank, #2 Philips Screwdriver to remove the carbs and unscrew the top cover of the carbs.  Allen wrench to unscrew the float bowls (I don't remember what size, but it's metric.)  Small flat head screwdriver to unscrew main jet.  Smaller flat head screwdriver to unscrew the pilot jets and adjust the mixing screws.

That's about it.

ty, yeah first time im doing this.
which is why im waiting for the manual and going to use that + the walkthrough's I have bookmarked.

Just wanted to make sure I wasnt missing anything :)

and I have both types of allen wrenches.
metric and standard sockets with allen heads.

bought the standard set first as I needed one for I think it was to take the front brake calipers off. (no manual yet to know so I took a shot in the dark and one worked fine)
Then in the middle of replacing the handlebars last week.... the last thing I was removing was the handlebar clamps (need a 6mm)
had to pack everything up (was doing it out in the open) and head to an auto parts store to grab the metric set.
get back and unpack all over again, was just annoying is all.

and asked here cause I wasnt in the mood for that again if I can help it hahaha

The "Phillips" screws on the carbs are not "Phillips".They are JIS style screws which is just different enough to cause a standard #2 Phillips to strip the heads. On the factory carb screws,I use a small hand hack saw to cut a slot in the screws, and use a larger flat blade screw driver to remove them. Then I replace them with allen cap bolts. They are readily available at Lowe's and most Ace True Value stores.

Also another trick you can do to get the bowl screws off is use a pair of vise grips.  Tighten them down so that they bite into the head of the screw, then just turn to loosen.  I used this method since I knew I was going to replace the screws and it is faster than making a slot for a flat blade.
