OK, so I'm finally trying to get her back on the road but I need some advice to correct this damaged bracket. It holds the grab bar behind the seat and is welded to the square tube frame:




Anyone have any idea what I could try to straighten it out?

couple of big pipe wrenches

and a mig welder

I think I'm going to have someone with welding skills try to build a new bracket, but I have one last request for help:
Can anyone post or send me some large or hi-res pics of their gs500 without the tail fairings so I can show to my buddy who's a welder? I know it'll help to get the bracket as close to factory as possible.

Weld the bugger like the werase says ... after that ... stop using the grab bar to put it on the center stand ... and get a lighter passenger and get them to hold you instead of the grab bar.
I tore it too on my 89 and finally learnt to use the passenger footpeg to put it on the stand.

and I fixed it with a welder/hammer/and vice grips....several yrs ago for the rednek

Oh ... actually I tore my 89 in CA and welded it there, you probably did on someone else's ... or maybe I had somethign else welded ... no idea.

Anyway we need one of em weekend bashes ...

I dont doubt it ... the 89 I managed to tear that part was done by first fitting a luggage rack onto the grab rail, then I carried a milk crate on it for a few years. Then I may have backed into things with it, then it tore the bracket. I welded it and the guy that welded it was the same guy that made the grab bar into luggage rack, and he couldn't stop laughing.
Anyway we should do one of those werase basement bashes ... GR frame is comming out in a few days ... you wanna shoot for late this month/next month ...  ... yea I'll pay you this time ...  ... serious, I will and not just in beer and pizza ... which of course I bring along for us.

I forgot to upload this yesterday.  My bad.  I don't know if this would even be usable since I cut it at a weird angle.  Anyways, this is all I had left.   It's off a 96.

grind off the crap and weld it on..... easy!!!!!!   
just need some measurement points to align it

It's actually just a little different, but I think my father-in-law can help me weld it together. The only difference is that mine has little mounts on the sides for the tail fairings to screw on, but again, this would help TONS!
Can you cut the excess at the red lines below and PM me how much you want for the part and shipping?

I help the GF's kids(adults) with mechanical probs.....they don't hardly talk to me otherwise

This is a lot of effort for what IMHO is a POS steel scrap piece. Grab bar ... meeeh, who cares.
