Dude, I live in Denver too and there was a complete GS engine on craigslist the last time I went perusing a few days ago.  I think the guy wanted 300 for it but I can't be sure.  Give it a look.

I also live in Denver, was looking to trade up for a CBR and ran across that gs500 motor. I think it was a week or so ago? Just run a search on "gs500", I'm pretty sure there's not a lot of them on there.

I've got the engine out of my 97. It has about 40K miles on it, starter included, carbs are gone. I'm on the east side of Cleveland OH. I could meet you part way, or deliver it, for gas money.
