Hey guys,

Remember in an earlier post I said that my motorcycle was running OK?  Well, it still has problems.

Like I said in an earlier post, I own a 2005 gs500 that hasn't been ridden in nearly 2 years.  The things i have done so far are Kremed the gas tank, installed new drive chain, and cleaned the carbs.

Problem #1  Air is puffing out of the carburetor vacuum line intermittently accompanied by an engine click.

Problem #2  my engine is running out of fuel and dying while riding,  I believe this has something to do with my fuel petcock and not letting fuel into my carb while in the 'ON' position.  I read somewhere that you can take the vacuum line off of the carb and suck on it and fuel should come out. I do not know if this is true or not but I tried this and nothing happened.

Problem #3  My choke appears to have little or no effect until I turn it to fully on - then it revs my RPM up to 4k if I back off just a little my engine returns to normal idle with any other position having no effect on idle speed.

Thanks guys for the help.  Any advice or wisdom on how to remedy any of these issues would be very much appreciated

Thank you,

   Justin

your petcock has probably called it quits.  you can open it up and inspect the internals.  buy a new one and replace.

have you cleaned the carbs?  clean them and replace every rubber gasket, o-ring, seat in there.

in inspect the choke cable and slider on the carbs

Rubber gasket and O rings need to be replaced only if they are leaking, a 05 with 2 years of parking wont kill it.
However I second the clean everything idea. Your petcock may not have given up, your vacuum line sure has.
Cool.

if its puffing out the vac lines, then i would bet his valves are tight enough that its getting some blow back... that or they are rusted and not sealing right...

I agree that another clean is not a bad idea.. I cleaned my carb last time by boiling it in lemon juice for 20 minutes then taking it out and spraying it down with carb cleaner.  It looked like it did a pretty good job but maybe not good enough?  I know there is a solution for soaking carbs in overnight but it is high dollar and I have heard there are better ways to go about cleaning it.

Also, My vacuum line is sucking air like it should, I do not think it is bad? Is there anything I can do to repair my petcock

Dang it, that does not sound good, Is a little blow back normal? It just does it intermittently mainly while the engine is warming up and is always accompanied by a engine click..

Do you happen to have an aftermarket fuel filter on the bike? These can cause fuel starvation issues.

Hard warming up is often valves. Check 'em anyways. Prob due I bet too.

Unlikely your petcock is toast. Maybe, but unlikely. Are you sure you have enough gas in the tank (do you know how far to go until next fill up) - and - that your main/pri/res lines are all on the correct places on the petcock?

Thanks, hoses are routed the correct way,  I only have a gallon or so in my tank.... ill try it again tomorrow with a full tank   I can see how this could cause the problem lol..
Also gonna inspect my valves for rust, wear, or clearance? Do you know of any good resources for this?
