Isn't thiefs cause the gas is safe on my driveway... as for the float... would that cause gas to leak while the bike is just sitting and not running?

Yes. Most carbs dump overflow gas out of the bowls and onto the ground... GS's seem to be more likely to dump into bottom end.

Do these carbs have float overflows, or does it just dump gas into the cylinders?

I'll add one:

 I'll add another one:

Woke up one morning to a puddle of fuel  and it turns out the screws holding the tank petcock had loosened up and started leaking fuel. Glad the engine wasn't hot at the time!

Holy Flambe, Batman!

I got both of y'all beat, I was driving around trying to find a oil filter, went from napa to advanced, parked and turned it off (fully hot engine) and gas started spewing out the side of my bike right under the tank(just filled up too)... The bloody lines had dry rotted through right at the petcock and spewed gas out...

The problem turns out to be.....
A crack in the tank :(
Finally narrowed down where it is (by turning it upsidedown and then rightside with a little fuel and seeing where it leaked from).... Just JB Welded the crap out of it.. hope it holds.

If you have a vacuum petcock, the diaphragm inside may have a hole in it, allowing gas to flow back through the carb vacuum port, flooding the engine with fuel, and running it out the over flow onto the ground.
PICS are GONE never TO return.
