Carb problem?

Already had 2 posts on my problem so I'll try to be short.

Was sick last week and my nose hasnt been all too clear til recently, also havnt even started the bike in like a week.

Left it idle for like 15 mins to warm up. (acted fine)
Left the exhaust cool to replace tach cable gaskets.
Started it up after I was done and it immediately started acting up like before.
(total lack in power and had to keep giving it throttle to stay running, also had Alot of popping out of the exhaust last time I Rode it, even while giving it throttle)
No bad sounds from the engine.

But this time with a Clear nose....
Was a strong gas smell

Bike is going to the garage first thing tomorrow morning but just lookin for some insight on possible problems to get an idea on what I should expect to spend on getting it fixed.

Overflowing floats ? you got fuel in airbox ?

didnt check that right after it was acting up.
Took the carbs off days after it was acting up.

what I posted is pretty much all the info I got since replacing the boots from the carbs to the engine wasnt the problem. (old ones mounts were rusted and just came off)

Just wondering if "Most Likely" sounds like an air or fuel problem.
Mostly with the carb since no hoses are pinched or leaking.

On vacation since Yesterday until Tuesday night so Im just trying to get a rough idea on the problem in hopes it wont take a Long time for the garage to fix it.
So I can actually make plans to ride.

cleaned the carbs best I could for my first time and installed everything back correctly.
tho I only took the floats and such out since the Jets or whatever screws out were pretty tight and I didnt wanna strip them.
It was pretty darn clean to begin with tho.

and no gaskets were missing or damaged.

Did you check and adjust your float height?What you describe in your first post sounds like the float needles hanging or they have gotten out of adjustment. http://gstwin.com/float_height_check.htm Make sure the bike is level front to back and side to side.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

Well, dropped it off at the garage.

Started acting up before I even went a mile.
Luckily it didnt appear to cause anymore problems riding it over there while it was acting up.

Had my dad following me in my car and said it sounds like a carb problem.
He knows old car carbs so its not like hes talkin out his @$$.

Guy at the shop took it around the building and said its running very Rich and only running on 1 cyl.

That worried me for a sec but he said its most likely just the carbs.

Also not too worried cause when its Not acting up (getting flooded if its running rich), it seems to be running fine on both cyl's.

Hopefully all that is needed is the air/fuel adjustment caps need to be drilled out and adjusted.
that would be sweet as it wouldnt run me a whole lot I hope hahahaha


Will update when I get the call on whats wrong with it.

A stuck float will react well to being hit with a screwdriver handle ... or even shaken nicely on the center stand. A mechanic is an expensive way of hitting it with a screwdriver handle.

that was actually one of the first things I tried.

Also did it many times after that but without damaging force.

Check the tips of the needle valves that allow fuel into the carb bowls.  They are rubber coated and eventually develop tiny little dents around the cone.  Once this happens, they can no longer actuate the valve, even if the float height is set correctly.   I opened the garage a couple of weeks ago to an overwhelming odor of gasoline, looked at the GS, and saw fuel dripping from the air filter.  Had to wait a week for my carb kits to arrive before I could ride it again.
