Just a heads up that Ace Hardware carries Suzuki blanks (SU-18) and they are only $2.99 each to have a key copied.

actually any "Locksmith" shop should have them for just as cheap.

I've had keys made from other places that werent locksmiths and they didnt get it cut right.

So I just trust ppl who specialize in keys.

Simply walked into one shop like a month ago to get 2 spares for mine, also one work key copied as well.

only cost me like $12.

I've tried 2 separate lock smith shops around here (real big stores too) with no luck

i've had really good luck with a locksmith, i broke my only key in half about a month ago and they were able to make me 2 new keys based off the broken one

Yeah, I had Wal-Mart "make" me one. Guess what? Didn't work and they wouldn't exchange it!

Anyone who's in Sydney looking for GS keys, there's a locksmith on Pitt st down the central station end who stocks Suzuki blanks and knows his shaZam! with bikes.  More expensive than Mr Minute but he'll do the job properly to factory code.  My gas cap opens a lot more easily since I had him recut my key.

I think I'll have to go there tomorrow!

Lots of Suzuki bikes use the same key blank. Asking for a GS500E key might get nothing. Ask for Suzuki motorcycle key and compare. There are blanks that are longer - but that doesn't make any difference.

A tiny local locksmith shop has Suzuki blanks. Guarantees the work - "If your bike's outside, please test it now." They stamp their shop name on it so if there is a problem, they know they made the key and will correct it. Something like $5 a key.

I got 4 spare keys off Ebay for $14, cost $20 to get them cut.

I only got them because I only had one stock key.

I leave the stock key and a spare key at home, one key at work and one on the bike

And because over the years I've heard/read way too many "Damn, lost/broke my key," I'll reiterate:  One set for home, one set for the jacket, one set for the moto.  That's served me well many times over the years.

I remember back when I was stuck in another province with my bike and no key   Price at the local stealership was $40/key  

Had to get my roomate to send me my spare key via priority overnight. Still cost $20 but better than getting robbed by Suzuki.

Apparently I was told there's a number stamped on the bottom of the ignition, and I would've had to remove it to find the number 

I had to hit like 5 places before I found a local locksmith that had like 2 blanks.  Overcharged like a mofo but I got em.

Been looking for someplace to make me a spare, so thanks....!!

i have a question though

when i got my Exodia, She had 2 keys. One key for the Ignition and the other key is for the Tank Lock and Seat Lock,
i would really just prefer having just one key for the Ignition, Tank, & Seat like what majority of the members here have.

well, the old owner said that he had to get the iginition change because somebody tried to mess around with the ignition
and broke a key inside of it

my question, do you think i could get the ignition re-keyed or modified (i'm not sure what the exact word) so my other key (for the tank & seat lock) will fit in it?  I'm pretty sure a really good locksmith can do it, and i'm pretty sure he/she will charge me an arm and a leg for doing it, but do you think it will be a lot of work taking out the ignition module?

please let me know, like i said, i would rather carry just One Key instead of 2 keys

The seat lock can come apart really easy. You can probably re-key that yourself or remove some of the wafers or file them down so it works. Not much to steal under the seat - so even if only one wafer locked the seat you're probably OK. The seat has a spring keeping it locked, so no wafers would be OK if you're OK with that. Any key or a screw driver would then open the seat.

You can remove the gas cap and probably get that re-keyed easier than removing the ignition. One other option is to replace the gas cap with a keyless one. If no one messes with your bike, go that route. $30-$80 depending on what you get. I personally like this one. Looks good, really easy to use. Comes in different colors:

I have one of the screw-on billet ones, but with temperature changes or slippery hands, they can be a beach to unscrew and I cut myself on the threads (so it is in the parts drawer never to be used again by me). A couple companies make ones like this type:
