Hey,

Id just like to see if i can grab a few opinions about paint.  Painting plastic is new to me so im unsure what type of primer, paint and clearcoat id need to make it look nice.  Im planning on painting my rear fairings black, but im unsure of the type of paint or even the brands that are.

Helps appreciated!

I used PPG primer (high build) and had problems with the primer bubbling when I sprayed the PPG color over that on the plastic parts.

I'd look for a primer that is made to stick to plastics.

Depending on what your using to paint, spray gun or cans? But the prep can be the same. Sand your fairings back with 180 grit or 240 till you've gone through the clear and paint and nearly onto the primer, this bit is a total Buddha Loves You to do but rule is perfect prep job for a good paint job. Next step is deciding on your paint type, acrylic or two pack or can.  Either way follow your instructions on the tin but go for the filler primer. Give it all a wipe over with a tack rag (if you have or can get one) and a wipe over with wax and grease remover this bit is very important. Wait for it to dry then wet rub it back till it's smooth. Wet rub means wet so have a bucket of water or a hose to wet the paper or the job. If your going for a metallic paint you will need to use at least 1200, I start with 320 to get it generally smooth get the rough bits off. Then I use 800, then 1200 or 1500. When you look along your job in the light it should have a glossy look to it with no deep scratches. But don't rub too hard cause if you rub through your primer you will need to start again. What you planning on using? Cans or spray gun? But either way you can use any kind of paint and clear. This is just what I do it's not gosphel others may have a different way or a better way but it's the way I go and I'm happy with my results but this bit is gosphel. Prep prep prep, then more prep if you want a good finish.
