How about these?  These were crawling all over the place at the river near where we were fishing on Sunday.  We caught three of them.  Who knows how many more there were.  Anybody know what they are?

Looks like a water moccasin which is an extremely venomous snake.

I could be wrong, though.

Edit:  The head looks to be in the shape of a viper, so that's my reasoning.

I thought maybe they were water moccasins.  Just wanted to see if any of you guys might know for sure.  :)

Were the eye pupils vertical (moccasin) or round (water snake)?  You've got guts to pick up a snake you couldn't identify.   :o

I think they were slits.  Just pin that sucker down with a stick and grab it behind the head.  Read up on moccasins and it said they don't flee like most snakes and these snakes weren't in any hurry to get away from us.

It looks like you are holding them very tight ... You squeeze the venom out ? maybe its worth serious $.

That's not how you get venom. You have to slide an object behind its fangs and squeeze the venom out. The way they are holding it is so the snake doesn't bite them. The snake cannot turn its head to bite in that position.

Update: Out of the ten eggs only eight survived.  The other two eggs produced snakes, but they did not make it.  Shedding in the snakes has begun and after that feeding will commence.
