The wife and I had a spill in the mts of NC and something odd happened after I stiched the fairing back an put a tractor light in it. The bike lowered itself about a inch. What is odd is I laid it down headlight first into a tree at about 15 to 20 mph to avoid going over a 25 foot drop when a lovely ST rd turned into gravel. I learned a grand lesson,SCOUT FIRST before carving the back rds. After the fix we  salavaged a couple nice rides but the suspense feels softer. Any ideas what I screwed up.

Forget the bike, are you sleeping on the couch?  Is she OK?  You barely mentioned her.  Glad you're ok too!

First thing checked was my sweety, can't say enough for wearing good gear. She only got a small bruise on her knee. It took me 3 days, a few perscription mess and lots of liniment. Really she was ready to ride the next day

Are your forks bent/damaged?

Did the shock mount maybe crack welds and bend upward? or, did the spring break a coil (I've seen it on cars, could happen)

Forks are solid and unbent. The headlight bracket took the whole impact and the bike was only down for a foot or so. I couldn't have written a crash any better but any spill you ride away from is great, even if there are parts hanging off here and there. I haven't taken the fairings off yet to thoughly check the rear suspension but will very soon. Aren't the F models equiped with a adjustable shock? If they do I'm hoping that it just somehow got knocked to the softest setting but the mount being cracked wouldn't surprise me either.

All GS's only have a pre-load adjustable rear shock. The front suspension on a GS is not adjustable unless it has been upgraded from another bike.

Is there any oil leaking from the front forks? Run your finger around the smooth shiny part above the front fork seals and check if you can feel any oil. If you can they are leaking and can make your suspension squishy.

Just curious- how do you know the bike is lower? Does it feel lower or did you measure off of a reference point?

If there was enough damage to the bike to actually lower it that much (especially that can't be found easily), I wouldn't ride it until it was inspected by a pro.
