I ended up going with reflective red and just finished installing them...man that takes a steady hand.  Here's some pics, I think it turned out good.

Very solid, nice work.  There are a few wobbly spots but you can only tell if you really stare at it.  Looks great though, makes the bike pop a bit more.

EDIT: How long did it take?

Thanks.  If I could make one recommendation, get a friend to help you when you do it.  I found I would get into a good groove and then I would have to stop and spin the wheel...if I had a buddy spinning the wheel as I went, I may have avoided the few "wobblies".  Oddly enough, pic 2 (front) is the first side I did, I might have to re-do that side.

Took me ~30min.

Looks awesome!  The red really brings balance to the 500F sticker.  I just put a similar stripe on my blue and white 2009 and I am glad I went with that color!!

Where did you guys get your stripes?  I was always interested in this but now that it seems like its not a superlong job I'm definitely gonna get after it once I find the best ones to get.

Still waiting to strip down and repaint my rims before I buy em tho.
PO got so much overspray of different colors on the rims.
they also need to be repainted regardless.

No worries man you're not the only one.  The right side of my rear wheel isn't nearly as neat as what you see in the pic and it drives me crazy....  though apparently I'm the only one who notices.

I got mine at a local bike shop, the brand name was 'Kimpex Reflective Wheel Stripes'.  $13.99 and it does 2 rims both sides.  Some kits I've seen are 4 pre cut curved pieces, the stripes I bought were one looooong stripe in a plastic applicator/roller (which frankly, didnt work worth a sh1t..) I ended up doing it by hand anyway...

Looks awesome.. If i can manage to get all the road grim (bought some of that spray stuff that should clean the rim right up) and other stuff caked onto my wheels off, going to go with the red (painting my bike all black)...

Any tips or suggestions?

My back wheel was more grimy than my front...I used Windex Multipurpose cleaner and a rag, worked well.  Make sure they are really clean and dry tho before you start.

Those look great.  I'd love to see some more pics of other color combos.  My GS is the 2004 Blue/White color scheme.  No red in my color scheme so I'm not sure how red stripes would look on the wheels, but not crazy about the blue stripes.  Silver might look good w/ my color combo, but the red really stands out nicely.

These definitley look like they would improve night-time safety as well.

Definitely will want to clean your wheel....  I would use a good de-greaser first. I used mineral spirits (maybe some dawn soap and a toothbrush would work well), then followed that up with rubbing alcohol after to remove any leftover de-greaser residue.

Also, doing all 4 wheels at once requires a lot of concentration and strain on the eyes.  I found that by the time I got to the back wheel, I started to rush just to get it finished.  The end result is that the right side on my rear wheel isn't as good as it should be.  I definitely wish I had taken a 10min break between wheels...the final product would have likely been better.

My GS is the same, I'm thinking about white stripes.
