I was going down I-70 in Kansas when a Coyote came at me from the left.  It hit between my front wheel and the frame.

I was up on my front wheel for a split second, then along for a hell of a ride.

First off I have road rash a little on my right arm, left leg, and a touch on my lower back where my jacked rode up.

The bike is actually in very good shape.  I will let you know what it is going to take to get it back up, and tomorrow I will probably be feeling lousy....so don't expect an update too soon.

Safe Riding everyone! :P
Cheers!

pantablo

must have been scary as shaZam!. Glad you seem no worse for wear and a little road rash is better than broken bones or more serious injuries.

What gear were you wearing and how did it hold up?

damn coyote....why does he have to run infront of a GS rider? there are millions of cars out there and he picked a small bike to run under  :(

glad you're OK

Turkina

Man, that's harsh... I'm glad you weren't hurt badly!
For people like you, we need to make a cowcatcher mod for your bike :)
Silly animal... not following the treaty made between man and beast (Seinfeld, where squirrels and pigeons would just stand in front of George when he drove, I think)
-Protection only works when you use it!-
Me: I'll kick your kitty ass!  Cat: Meow :P

Sad to hear of your crash. Glad you are ok though. Those damn animals come out of nowhere. :x  Take care and heal up.

TheGoodGuy

man animals on the roads are the worst.

I once ran over a mongoose (in india).. effectively killing it ( i was on my bicycle) but i know how it feels.. i mean that bump really screwed me up.

Glad your okay and no broken bones just a few bruises...

as usual.. get well soon .

You know it's only since I start to ride I Respect the road &  ppl who use it more, mainly more towards us  because we are so rare on the road & we must stick together  8)  anyway take care & get better soon.

Well I lied....I am back on here this morning.

List of bike damage.

Handlebars, mirrors, left turn signal, clutch, tank, centerstand, and tail.

My helmet, jacket, and gloves are all toast.

Which means without them i would have been in a good deal worse shape.

As far as I can asertain at this time, the handle bars, mirrors, clutch and I should be back in business....I think.

I am taking it to the shop at about 1:00pm to find out.  I think I am going to file a claim...eventhough my deductable is 500, I feel between my gear and the bike it is worth it....that is unless the finace tells me to fix it up, so I can sell it and never ride again....but we will see.

I won't be riding again until after the wedding in June though.....otherwise I think she will have a fit, well have a good day all......

Pain is temporary, experiences last a lifetime.
Cheers!

cozy

Glad to hear it wasn't worse, 8 lives to go right?!
Sounds like the coyote was against marriage.

I'm glad you are okay. Too bad about not riding until June. What is the logic there? She doesn't want you bruised and injured for the wedding?

Laura

scratch

Ooo, Glad you're O.K. I hit half a coyote at night after the car in front of me hit it. Did the same thing, launched me up it the air, but I landed the jump and kept riding. Pooped myself though. Still, it's good to hear that you're allright.

Not riding until the wedding is a wise choice. Prevents unnessesary stress. And weddings are pretty high up on the list of stress for some reason. Also, you kinda want to be at your own wedding in one piece.

stupid dog-things!

good to hear you're okay. i had 2 near splatters last night because of wheel sliding.

no riding till the wedding? well, look on the bright side, that'll give you plenty of time to get the bike into tip top shape before you ride again...
If you think you can, don't. Many things start with "I think I can," and end with "Ow!"

tough luck. a man once said that which does not kill me only makes me stronger. iwent down last summer on the gs.lowsided on some gravel going around a blind downhill righty.in shorts and a t shirt.road rash is not fun.enjoy the daily scrubbings.its easier when your comatosed on hydrocodone.the hospital damn near had me addicted to those things.

good luck with the rebuild

SHUT UP AND RIDE!

Hi-T

Glad you're not dead.  I'm curious- what equipment were you riding with (brand names).  I'm always inclined to go with "previously tested and works" gear.

No riding till the wedding... that's fine but you are riding off with her right after right... Like Pizzleboy... Yup... and now you have to fix the bike into the prettiest thing in the world - no expense spared... cos it is now part of your wedding... it has to be perfect...
Cool.

I don't think my motorcycle insurance (American Family) covers clothing, which is too bad because that could easily cost more than minor bike damage.  I guess I will just try not to fall down, eh? ;)

Yeah, my fiancee said "no riding until after the wedding" too... but she wasn't talking about bikes!  You could probably get away with riding a 125cc scoot.  For some irrational reason, non-riders seem to think they're safer, and for around town and short trips, they can be about as much fun as a GS.  You can still enjoy spring on 2 wheels!
You cannot escape our master plan!

Joe Rocket Ballistic of some sort can't remember right now, same for gloves.
Boots Army Jump Boots!

Helmet Zeus flip up face.

I figured I would show you all a few pics of the bike.

The pics don't do justice to the handle bars, as the left side is bent quite a bit....but here they are none the less.
Cheers!

dude..........is that blood in the fourth picture??? damn, glad you made it with just a scratch. :thumb:

yeah it was blood....from the coyote....there is actually blood on both sides of the bike...since his body hit between my front wheel and frame.
Cheers!
