Which mesh jacket?

It's hot and I really need to invest in a mesh jacket because I won't ride without at least gloves jacket and helmet. I have narrowed my choices down to two linked below. Both are on clearance but the Cortech costs about twice as much as the Firstgear, is it worth it?  I like the styling of the Cortech but I might like the price of the Firstgear more. If anyone has seen other good deals on mesh jackets, please feel free to share. Thanks in advance.

I like to look of the First Gear.....more my price range....looks like nice for good price....Over $100 for a mesh is out of my league!

I have first gear gloves and they are good quality...not that it means anything regarding Jacket..

I use a "textile" jacket for all but the hottest days...Performance First...It has removable liner, and has zippers on the sholders, arms, back back and front which open up wide to let air flow thru the inner mesh........very cool if you are moving....hot if you stop...

I am always thinking about a full mesh for those really hot days.....

Hmm...the Cortech is 600 denier, while the FirstGear is 250 denier...your skin.

I have and wear the Cortech GX Air 2 jacket, and it is amazing. It feels almost like you are not wearing a jacket at all.

I wear this to and from work everyday, I am in Atlanta so it is in the mid 90's

Also, the GX air 2 comes with 2 zip out liners 1 for winter and 1 for rain (they can both be in at the same time)

I think this might have sealed it for me. Thanks, I spent more time looking at the pictures and less time reading descriptions. I assume that those numbers refer to the thickness or abrasion resistance of the material?

Actually.. If you can fit a large in black http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/39/17962/CITEM/Shift-Racing-Airborne-Mesh-Jacket-Closeouts.aspx apperently now has that avalible...

Thanks, but I'm trying to avoid an all black or mostly black jacket for the hottest weather.  Looks like I'm going to spend the extra cash on the Cortech this weekend.  I received an email from motorcyclegear.com today that Cortech and TourMaster gear is going up in price on Monday.  Going to order the jacket before this weekend.

I have the Cortech GX Air 2--see my avatar, the yellow one.  It's a great jacket.  It has taken me from 35-95 this year.  I will say above 95, it's a little tough to stay cool.  Works pretty well up to that.  I don't think it flows the most air compared to other mesh jackets, but it feels durable.  Like someone said, 650 vs 250.  It is a sturdy feeling mesh at least.  I can attest to the rain liner, I got pounded for 20 min in a downpour where cars were pulling over, and I stayed dry (except for my boots).  The fit is pretty good, I take a 42 sport jacket and ordered a M, which is 42, and it fits.  It is a little baggy in the midsection, probably to accomodate dudes with guts.  If that's you, it'll work.  My only issue with it is that on longer rides at highway speeds, the zipper seems to drop down the front...after 30 min I found my jacket almost 3/4 unzipped!  :icon_eek:  Dunno what that's all about...but keep the velcro neck tab cinched on it.

I have the tourmaster intake v2, its awesome, has put up with over 1k miles in a month, and still looks brand new.

I have the Rev'it tornado and its the best 300 bucks I ever spent on a jacket.

It flows like crazy and the quality feels top notch.  I highly recommend it.

Denier is threads per inch.  More threads, more sliding protection.

AmI the only one who sees the conflict  of interest between the concept of "mesh" and the concept of "Denier"....lots of threads per inch????

Possibly. There still has to be a thread density in the parts that make up the mesh.
I like a non-sequitur as much as the next Giraffe.

I have a vega. It's about the only thing I like that vega makes. It is super comfortable and breathes well. I took a msf course a few weeks ago and it was 90*+ both days. Day one I just wore a long sleeve cotton t-shirt and sweated my cahona's off. Day two I started with another long sleeve t-shirt, but after sweating worse in less time I figured I'd try my jacket as it couldn't get worse. I wore that and a compression shirt and was WAY cooler instantly. It is all black too. I have never been too hot in an all black mesh jacket.

Ive got an older Teknic leather that is full leather with pads. It is vented also but man it is heavy. I also want something mesh for the summer.

On a side note I recently bought some new Firstgear overpants off ebay and am impressed with the quality but havent ridden in them yet. Im also looking for some kevlar pants now.

I'm currently using a Hi-viz/Black Firstgear Kilimanjaro Air Jacket, kind of a mesh adventure jacket. Flows a lot of air.
