Screwed up my carbs...

Need a little help.

So far I've taken the carburators on this '05 GS500F apart twice to try and get it running. First time because it would only run with the choke on, and wouldn't rev. Put it back together and it would run, sort-of, for a little while then stall out. Now I've got them together, and it won't start at all.

I think I screwed up in my re-assembly of the vacuum assembly on the top cover of the carburetors (see the attached image).

Sadly, there isn't a diagram of how this thing goes together in Bike Bandit. I don't suppose anyone has a clue?

I think there's only one way they can go together.  Now whether they work properly after they get back together is a different story.

What else did you check/adjust when you had the carbs off?  What was it doing that motivated you to take it apart in the first place?

So far I've identified 3 different ways of assembling the internal components.  :icon_lol:

Initially I took it apart to clean the carburetors, because the bike would only run with the choke on and would die as soon as you touched the throttle. This implied dirty carbs, so I took it apart to clean it.

However, this was a few weeks ago, and I wasn't able to really devote much time to working on it due to work and this being a second bike.

Now, though, my cousin moved in with me and is going to use the GS as his learner bike/transportation. So I'm trying to get it running again, and can't seem to get it to that point. It's a fueling issue for sure, since if I put some gas directly in the carb throat, it'll fire and run.

Crud, looks like my TPS is bad. No matter where I set it or the throttle, it reads 5.09k ohms. :(

Ha, got it running!   :woohoo:

Well, at least until the fuel line cracked and started leaking fuel everywhere.  >:(

Are you starting the bike and running with the petcock set to PRI?If not you should be.If you go from PRI to ON or RES and start having running issues, then the petcock is bad.If the petcock's internal diaphragm has a hole or tear,it will run bad on any setting.

Yeah, we were running it on Pri.

It's working now, kind of. Sadly the fuel lines had gotten brittle in the sun (a year sitting in a parking lot), so as soon as it started running they started cracking. :(

It has an appointment to go into the shop tomorrow to make sure it's tuned correctly and to fix a few things that I don't have the tools (or time) to do.
