Sometimes my shoe lases become loose while I ride and I can't help but think about how incredibly dangerous that could be. Barring always wearing motorcycle boots(velcro), what would you all do if you were going down the highway, a 2 lane road, or any tough environment to pull over?

Why not just double tie them and tuck them in?  Double tied it is nearly impossible for them to un-tie completely....

This is a common misconception amongst the podi-laser followers. Shoe lasers are designed to only be discharged when the user has unlocked the safety switch on the outside heel of the shoe. Without this safety switch engaged, a misfire from the laser would be impossible. Please continue to be responsible with your shoe lasers and don't  :2guns: recklessly.

Also, there is a right way, and a wrong way to tie your shoes:

i would Definitely pull over, fast, but safe. if on the interstate - after realizing i would immediately signal to show you are pulling over. get off the road as far as possible and retie.

if on a two lane find a driveway. not many driveways? i would even pull off in the grass on a nice level spot.

shoelace in the chain would be murder!

i'm still searching to for a pair of moto boots i like. for now i double tie them, tight.
if yer binders ain't squeakin, you ain't tweakin!

Shoe laces + Motorcycle = bad.  I went for a quick spin to the store once last year and my laces didnt come undone, but the loop got caught on the shifter...not a good feeling.  I never ride unless I have my boots on whch are lace free with velcro straps.  Laces coming undone or getting caught are a recipie for disaster.

There are TONNES of shoe and boot laced boots of all styles and they almost all have a velcro strap that "locks" in the laces....if it were me Id be sourcing a pair of them...then you dont have to to worry about the scenario you've presented in this thread.  But pulling over for any emerg reason; SIGNAL, at the same time you could lightly flick your break so it "flashes" (I do that sometimes if im on the highway and traffic suddenly stops), make a hand gesture, and get over/out of the way as safely as possible.

Just to show a few of the hundrds avail;

I have some motorcycle shoesfrom Shift. They have safety features and are very comfortable. They look like basketball shoes. The style I have are the "curve" but they make a similar style for men.

I ride to work in steel capped boots. Have tieing my laces I tuck them in at the side of my ankle. I wear them like this at work. It keeps them in places where they cannot come undone by themselves. Problem solved.  :thumb:

I just hate it when my shoe laser goes off and obliterates the vehicle in front of me, but sometimes I use it on cagers that pull out in front of me :)

P.S. I sure enough, tie my shoes in the weak form of the knot. you have forever changed my life. :)

+1 on the velco, I'm going to look at something like that :)

Get something like these: http://rideicon.com/product_details.jsp?category=3432&id=12300

Laces instead of velcro but they don't look too different from normal shoes (I wear 'em to work every day and no one gives 'em a second look), but with (among other features) a strap that buckles down and keeps the laces in check.

I very much like the wheat icon duty 4s. I may have to get me some of those!!

Thanks!

You could wrap electrical tape around the boot to stop it coming undone, like you would in a football game.  I've done that a few times riding in workboots, since I've usually got half a dozen rolls of tape in my work bag anyway.

friend of mine used to wear shoes when he rode....

he stopped at a set of lights and went to put his left foot down and well... left lace was rapped around the foot peg 6 hour old r1 goes down.

3 weeks later he got t-boned and foot and ankle was ripped apart, we both wear riding boots now every time we saddle up.

a good pair of boots is your best friend i commute everyday and ride every where and my Sidi boots are great and comfortable to ride or walk in.

Couldn't agree more, I hate having to ride in work boots.  If I had an actual workplace I'd just change, but I ride to a new jobsite every day, often more than one and I'm already carrying my tools with me on the bike.  Carrying my very heavy bulky Puma V2s was just getting impossible.  A decent workboot does statistically help with injury risk on a bike compared to wearing sneakers or dress shoes, although not as much as a dedicated motorcycle boot.

The trouble is I need steelcaps at work, so even if I got a comfy pair of touring boots I could walk around in all day, they wouldn't be suitable on site.  I'm currently looking for a really solid calf high steelcap to cover both requirements.

I ride to work in my dress shoes... no laces wohoo! super dangerous i know... but its just too hot to wear gear in texas right now... 105-110 on 35 when i ride home no shade and blacktop at 10-15 mph is killer...
